At first my public defender said he was sure I wouldn't get prison. Then a year later, a short time before the trial is going to be, he said it's far from certain I won't get prison. I asked him what new info made him change his mind. He said he hadn't changed his mind and that we must have misunderstood each other. I think he probably lied so I would prepare less for the trial and make less resistance. Should I try to get a new public defender? The trial is in two weeks, I'm in Europe. Maybe they all suck. And maybe it's too late to prepare anyway. I wish I had gotten the idea a long time ago to read about law.

Part of why civilization exists today is because for thousands of years Europeans were segregating and artificially selecting rapists, psychopathic murderers, and other serious criminals out of the pool of reproductive people and into the prisons (sometimes into the bog, or out of life altogether). This basically has reduced the likelihood of Europeans having the genes that cause such barbarism, and has enabled our form of civilization and existence to be viable. It has caused some problems, too, in that we may be *too* domesticated, but that is something that can be dealt with, given time and power.
