Philosophy student here.

What are you guys doing for work right now that makes use of your talents?

I never intended to study philosophy to get a job, but I do want to make use of my skills I acquired through my undergraduate years while I am in graduate school.

My aunt studied philosophy and litterature, then taught philosophy in highschool, and then in Higher School Preparatory Classes.

She also managed a collection in a publising house and gives conferences/lectures.

This is precisely why I wouldn't want to take a philosophy class.

Beats me, I majored in something practical but tried to take as many electives as I could. What made you want to major in philosophy op?

>What are you guys doing for work right now that makes use of your talents?

there arent many fields in which you can maintain your philosophical ideals (most jobs really want robots) , outside of humanities, and even the humanities are saturated with hack frauds.

> Aiming therefore at such great things, remember that you must not allow yourself to be carried, even with a slight tendency, towards the attainment of lesser things. Instead, you must entirely quit some things and for the present postpone the rest. But if you would both have these great things, along with power and riches, then you will not gain even the latter, because you aim at the former too: but you will absolutely fail of the former, by which alone happiness and freedom are achieved.

I went to a Catholic college. They weren't there in droves. There was one I could recall who would always get shutdown by either the History or Philosophy professors I had with him.

I originally wanted to study mathematics but I found myself more interested in Political Philosophy through Plato and Thomas Aquinas. Plus when I was in high school, the whole neo atheist thing started breaking out and I thought I wouldn't survive in STEM if that was becoming the dominant culture.

Philosophy is mostly useful in proving you can read between the lines and just generally manage data/arguments.

Civil service/government in general isn't a terrible call.

Maritain is one of my favorites.

Did you by any chance go to notre-dame in indiana?

The SJW's are always the ones who see being a philosopher as an identity.
