By classifying yourself as a contrarian you've already admitted that you judge yourself by the prejudices of the masses, i.e what they consider contrarian. You remain part of the masses because you still use their values to anchor your own and, as the statement about the ethics class suggests, want their attention.
Therefore you'll only ever be free from the prejudices of the masses once you come up with your own group of reasoned prejudices that you have developed without reference to theirs. You may still share prejudices with them but will no longer base yours on theirs.
