Is anyone else sick of "new age" "philosophy"?? It seems like it's just pseudo-spiritual nonsense that acidheads read off bumper stickers while high, and confused the event with some kind of divine intervention.

Here are a few reasons why I kind of like but don't really like "new age":
- New age spirituality promotes a simple means of therapy, reflection, and more peaceful way of living. But there are better, more productive approaches to the first two aspects of these benefits, both in the secular field and the religious. There is a good deal of harm done by its essential mode of functioning, via anti-intellectualism.
- New age science acts to critique contemporary Western science, culture, and tradition. Unfortunately, while the slew of New Age perspectives is vast, it is like a dirty puddle in that it is very shallow and ill-suited for both meaningful reflection and gainful nourishment.
- New age teaches people self-confidence. Unfortunately, this confidence is often conflated with false senses of respect or skill, resulting in undesirable circumstance and offensive behavior.

Here are a few reasons why I don't like "new age":
- New age culture often has a heavy commercial aspect to a lot of its prized objects/rituals. Namely, the healing crystals, stupid self-help books, ignorant food fetishes, spiritual "training" from a "trained professional" (ha ha), the placebo medicines that make people think they're getting a steal and deal for jack shit that keeps them sick, and all the ridiculous drugs that empower the whole movement all seem to require a lot of money moving hands.
- The delusion that "natural" is better than .. what we have, that "impulse / feeling" overpower "logic/reason", and that all opposing ideologies are "equally true" or "all evil/corrupted" prevents meaningful contributions being made to any real science, aside from a novel means of spotting the mentally ill.
- The points borrowed from Eastern Philosophy are often misconstrued. New agers think that tripping is the same as becoming God, or that karma means that your wishes / occasional good deeds mean that God's going to hand them a tofuburger. Dumbasses.
- New age gives a bad rap to academic metaphysics and idealism / mysticism / spiritualism, and it also promotes ignorance/foolishness through its ceaseless, invalid attacks against realism / materialism / science, stoicism / balance, the aforementioned Eastern philosophy, and both progressive liberal politics and conservative traditionalism alike.
- It's boring and outdated. If it can't offer new ways of looking at the world or living, and if it can't offer better ways of doing things, it should at least offer interesting things. It doesn't.

Hearing your thoughts/experiences/frustrations would be neat

Which "philosophies" are you critiquing, exactly?

I personally don't consider New Age bullshit to be a philosophy in the true sense of the word; it's an ideology more than anything else. New Age (using it as a general term here for the groups you're describing) is more interested in having a certain identity and believing in whatever is contrary to the predominant culture. It's inauthentic and not founded on any sort of rigorous thinking; all the tough questions in New Age - much like in the Western religions they so scorn - are dismissed away with obtuse, mystic hand-waving that intentionally says nothing while pretending to sound too enigmatic to be comprehensible.

It's not even worthy of serious discussion, because at best New Age is a bastardized version of Buddhism.

>new age spirituality is anti intellectual
U wot m8?
Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey are the two main sources of the modern new age movement. Rudolf Steiner is another author who branched off from Blavasky's theosophical society and who doesnt lack intellect.
You seem to be confused by the sea of current authors and teachers who do indeed encourage a lack of critical reasoning. But they are not the root nor the top of the movement.
The anarchical level is topped by the hierarchical one in the pyramid of power.
Reason is kept away from the people in the one world religion to come (they hope) that is the new age movement, but it is not absent.
A bit like claiming that traditional religions are anti intellectual would be grossly mistaken.
The three key authors I named are well known, available and recognized for their importance in the newage literature. It is just that only the people who want the rational questions to be addressed go to them (the mind-centered people, as is defined in new age teaching).

Also you missed the main plot, besides the one world religion point i claimed above.
The new age religion is stealth Hinduism and Luciferianism.
The objective is total enslavement forever. It is the religion of the human cattle perfected to a point that the people will never challenge their masters. The "ascended masters" and "masters of wisdom" of the new age movement are the rulers of this world: the royals, the rothschilds and other super-elite families. They are designing this religion in order to be worshiped as gods.
This isnt hard to conclude from reading classical newage literature from the first half of the 20th century. They dont really hide it, they just fail to repeat it everywhere.

New Age is a term invented to umbrella all the religious movements someone doesn't like, it's not very descriptive.
If by New Age you mean modern-day derivatives of western esotericism and eastern buddhism or whatever then yeah it's kind of boring. Studying the traditions of Hermeticism and actual eastern religions is more interesting than feelgood interpretations

Oversimplification and generalization.
