Hello- first post here.
So I think I'm going to ask my parents to buy me a backpacking tent for christmas (1 man), probably in the range of a couple hundred dollars US, obviously I'd like it to be as light as possible but also versatile.
Most of the tents that I'm used to (I think most people are used to) have the normal tent that the poles go in with a raincover over the top. Obviously the benefit to this design is that you have a way to cool off and let some wind through when it's hot.
But last summer when I was in norway I borrowed someone's tent that worked sort of opposite- you put the poles in the outside and then buckle the part that you sleep in into the inside, so the inside can't stand up on its' own. This seemed to stay a lot warmer which was nice for elevation, also I spent some time in the arctic with it.
So in the next year I'll probably spend nights outside both in the tropics and in the arctic, is there one tent that offers a happy medium or versatility? What would make it worth it to have 2 backpacking tents? Seems like some of the insulated hammocks are a good idea to, but that limits you to places with trees.
Recs or other considerations would be welcome.
