Is it okay to call CDs records?

 No.86338

I just call everything an "album"

 No.86339

>>86338

I definitely call them "albums", but can I call them "records"? Does a record have to be vinyl to be considered a record?

 No.86341

You're all dumb, cassettes are the dominant format.

 No.86343

>>86341

I thought it was 8-Track.

 No.86344

They are recordings of music, thus, they are records by definition. when referring to old phonograph records I either call them phonographs or just "vinyl"

 No.86348

what's a CD?

why does a bee think there are only 25 letters in the alphabet?

cause the bee can't see D

 No.86406

Most older people in the industry refer to vinyls as LPs or EPs, CDs as CDs, and use record as a blanket term to describe the actual content within.

I'm not against vinyl, I just want everyone who uses the incorrect, non-existent word vinyls, to kill themselves.

Just 'records' works best, if you want to be more specific: LP's or (12"/10"/7") EP's, (whichever format is relevant).

If you really want to specify that you're talking about a vinyl records, and are not referring to the content/release, then simply say it like that: vinyl records.

Maybe depending a bit on context, just 'vinyl' works too, and in some communities (mostly dance music) you might hear 'plates' or 'dubplates' (although dubplates are technically incorrect too when talking about vinyl, because they're pressed on acetate instead).

If you're old and senile, you can say gramophone record or phonograph record, too.
