Hello /mu/ I have come to you with a gift that is virtually impossible to get anywhere else on the internet due to shut downs and MTV wanting to bury its history that it was once a sane channel.

I have come across a few tapes given to me by an ex MTV employee and ripped them into the digital format I present to you below for the sole purpose of educating the masses that MTV was once about music.

March 17, 1983:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-29yZsatc0rUTRlSkRIU1JVZmM?usp=sharing

November 24, 1984:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-29yZsatc0rRlBzbnNEYlhXejg?usp=sharing

January 6, 1984:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-29yZsatc0rYlBDUlRYOGFSam8?usp=sharing

Will be posting more soon, any contribution is appreciated.

General retro MTV thread while we're at it I guess.

 No.83152

>>83150

I'm not that anon, I know right that deleting history will only protect you from your mom. But I'm asking why would anyone use VPN, or try their best to remain hidden from Google or anything on a daily basis if you're not doing anything illegal or questionable?

Will your ISP fuck you in the ass for downloading those MTV archives?

I guess sarcasm isn't the best way to get a point across. What I mean is that unless you use a VPN and wipe your browser clean between sessions, you are not completely hidden. Using an alt account doesn't offer any more protection than private browsing. In fact, if you don't clear your cookies when switching accounts, whatever website you're logging into can see it's the same browser/computer and make the connection, and they can still track your alt account across sessions without extra effort. At least if you use private browsing your cookies will be clean for every session and google will have to associate each session to you based on other factors like activity time and IP address.

IMO there is little risk in letting google know you downloaded these files. Small copyright violations like this won't get you into trouble. The only reason I use private browsing sometimes is to keep the history clean so if I want to find something more valuable in the history I won't see a bunch of useless crap. If I want to browse illegal shit, I'd use tor browser.

This isn't entirely off topic, so I don't know why you're saging. Whether it's MTV or various record labels that own this content, if they somehow found out about the fact that someone was illegally sharing files they own the rights too and that they're using to make money, they could request the logs of everyone who downloaded those files (Google almost definitely stores that information regardless of whether that person is logged into a Google account, but being logged into a Google account would obviously attach your name to that information too) and, if they're massive assholes, they could take those people to court to try to get money out of them. As far as I'm aware, since OP says these are things MTV have tried to get rid of, nobody's making money off this stuff, so chances are the files would just be taken down from OP's account, but they've only posted them here, as far as I'm aware, so nobody will probably ever know. In terms of this thread, I really doubt anything bad will happen to anyone. In terms of torrents, it would be pretty stupid not to use a VPN, and I have known people who have been caught because they were stupid and thought you could just do whatever you want and never get caught.

In general, at the very least when it comes to Google, I kind of agree with >>83145, although I personally just avoid those kinds of websites and use NoScript. Google takes in far more of your personal information than you could possibly know. So do Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, and all of those kinds of companies. They give it to governments through PRISM, and they sell it to advertising companies. Pic related is what these people think of you. Considering the fact that hundreds of people's homes have been raided in places like Germany just because people said mean words about immigrants on Twitter, it's not far-fetched in the slightest to imagine that, just as an example, within the next couple decades, the next potential Julian Assange/Edward Snowden or whatever could be stopped before they start just because they browsed a "hate speech" website like 8chan, Google had that information, and they used it to give them a terrible public image or even give them a conviction. I unironically believe that it could have even already been in the beginning stages in the US if Hillary Clinton was the president. It may start happening in the UK soon, considering what they're starting to do with the internet. I don't know if you've heard of the Social Credit System that China is going to implement that takes away some of your rights if you aren't doing what they want you to do, but you might find it interesting to look into. You're welcome to think people like us are autistic, but the kind of stuff we're seemingly paranoid about isn't some kind of dystopic future. It's already happening around the world.

pls no bully

>Care to explain the risk if I download OP's links?

Remember a decade or two ago when some folks received absurdly high fines for downloading an album off torrents/napster?

I mean could be worse (for example going to jail for the thoughtcrime of watching childporn) but yeah, download that and if google can link the google account you're logged into to your identity (protip: they can) they grabbed you by the balls already.

OP here, managed to get my hands on about 2-3 hours of broadcast from 1985.

I apologize for taking forever, one of the tapes were missing and took awhile to find also apologize for giving you such a shitty way of providing these gems, I personally find the autoplay useful for those who dont wanna download raw data as it ends up being like 8-10 GBs of video per tape.

 No.85870

Holy fuck thank you so much OP you have no idea how happy this stuff makes me. I watch http://www.my80stv.com/ more than I like to admit.

Anyway keep uploading them. My only word of advice is to check your signal chain. VCR to MPEG2 should stay interlaced. If you need help capturing just ask. If you supply clean files I can de-interlace and encode them all with x264.

Thanks for all your hard work this stuff is priceless.

 No.85979

Magnet link? My internet sucks. Doing god's work regardless.

 No.86041

OK I downloaded them all and they amount to about 40gb.

The first 12gb will be reduced to about 4gb (approx 4 hours) so expect the total package to come in at about 12-15gb total when re-encoded. Stay tuned.
