Still doesn't mean shit. People have to read dostoyevesky in school too, doesn't make them literate. At the end of the day they go home and play video games like the brainlets they are.
Also, classical music IS the norm. All the shit you listen to is trickledown from real musicians who have had a lasting effect on the musical tradition. As far as I'm concerned pop music is just watered down classical music with few exceptions.
The story so far sucks tho.

I really wanted to like Coil, but just like you the terrible lyrics just grated on my consciousness until their music became painful to listen to. They're only band that's been able to take me from complete entrancement to wanting to stick a firecracker in my ears during the same album. Take Horse Rotorvator for example. Forgive me for coming to a music board hoping to have my horizons broadened by an excellent selection and display of musical breadth & depth.
On the writer boards, and other completely unrelated boards, I've heard some amazing music. Discussions of music at work (computer repair shop) have introduced me to obscure bands that are amazing, and the discussion on why music that should sound the same is interpreted by most listeners as completely different, has been eye opening.
All I find when I come here is pop, and contemporary. Where's the techno? Where's the classical? Where's the weird stuff?

>techno
>classical
>two very popular genres
>weird
You're delusional. I'm not that into books but as an educated guess I'd think that this would be the equivalent of saying Brave New World and 1984 are obscure and weird because they aren't Harry Potter. I'm not trying to be patronizing, I just don't think you understand. I'll post a bunch of music I think is weird and obscure (at least compared to the stuff you posted) and I bet you'll call it hipster trash and not give it a chance. Also, you should post the most obscure thing you can think of. I'm curious.

As to what I posted being mainstream … for the past five years I've only listened to pony music, and for probably five years before that, furry music. Which was mostly just plain techno with cool images because youtube was used that way back then. Still is, and I'll admit that bugs me.

One last one, something fun. I mention in the /pone/ raid thread, something that I think is called glitch-hop, but no one has replied to it. Maybe it's already a thing, maybe it only exists within the pony fandom.
This uses whole voice clips, though. Also, back to being furry, not pony. But across all of the pony breadth of music (even a few folk and country songs. Huh.) there's … something the same. I don't quite know what it is, but non-bronies don't make music with that aspect to it.
Furry art comes close, sometimes. Often, actually. Maybe there's an element of fantasy to music construction, I don't know.

The problem with his music to me, with trap in general, is there isnt much progression to do with the beats with the same rattling hi hats or 808s, it all sounds the same, because of it.

Cosmic space rock/dream pop. Some of the songs are a little more stoner/desert-rock inspired. For me the album is slightly inconsistent in style but otherwise a great dreampop record, and quite good for a debut album.
I'll be looking forward to more from the band
