I set up my surround sound system finally and wished to christen it. However, I did not realize how rare surround sound source material seems to be. You'd think it would be more popular. I tried to play some tracks from YouTube billed as 5.1 (including a testing track) but hilariously it was all 2 channel. I suppose Youtube only supports 2 channel stereo audio.
Because of this, I torrented the Blueray rip of the re-release of the Quadraphonic of Atom Heart Mother. It was Dolby Digital 5.1. I must say I was disappointed. While it was Quadraphonic it was poorly mixed. It was primarily a stereo recording that seemed to have my two rears hardly playing. The original Quadraphonic record was reviewed as having a "360 sound field" which had swooping of the audio through all speakers. I am unsure if I got a bum blueray or not. Still, it irritated me greatly. I never owned the Quadraphonic record, only the stereo.
This brought me to the question, why is there not more Quadraphonic albums coming out with the re-rise in Surround Sound receivers? My receiver has modes for pseudo-quadraphonic but this produces undesirable results.
