1 - Please list as many historical cases of monarchies being restored that you can think of.

2 - Find patterns.

This is exactly the kind of autism I want to see here. Whenever the government is weakened and the elite has some kind of in-fighting among itself, various factions will start to appeal to the people for support and whoever the public sides with will win, INCLUDING total outsider groups that didn't have anything to do with the goverment. This is what you might call a revolution, but in our case, it's what commies would call a "counter-revolution".

Our goal should be to prepare as many people as possible for this moment of crisis when the government is weakened and we have the chance to decide our future once again. It is essential to have aggressive propaganda and a very convincing populist program. If we don't, then quite predictably there'll be a situation like France, where no matter how many times the government changes, you always end up with some shitty republic, or something like Ukraine where they had 3 revolutions just in the past few decades, but the country (and even its politicians) hasn't changed at all. It could also be worse, you might end up with a 21st century Lenin, or with a situation like Venezuela because everyone is so sick of "capitalism" and they want some extreme poverty for a change.

Depressing.

Bump.

Are there are least any good historical texts about monarchist restorations? I feel like historians completely ignore them and the reasons behind them.

This reminds me of the view looking down the alleyway by the Rham Gate in Luxembourg City.

Are you specifically looking for only literal restorations, or does a new monarchy coming about after a period of not having a monarchy count as well?

Restorations I find a lot more interesting, because from what I hear, there's a large popular support that brings them about. Whereas it seems like the standard story for a new monarchy is "Dictator appoints his son to the position" a la North Korea. But I wouldn't mind reading something that challenges that conception.

The main thing is that literal restorations discount the Roman empire, despite the fact that pretty much the entire West is implicitly romanophilic.

Beyond restorations, the dutch stadtholder became something of a monarchical position, if I remember correctly.

What do you mean by "discount the Roman empire?"

I probably could have worded that better. Basically, the change from the republic to the empire wasn't a restoration of the old Roman kingdom, but the establishment of a completely new monarchy. This means they wouldn't count, even though the West in general has had a boner for the Roman Empire for ages.
