If you use the builtin man, you should use the section number so you get something different to what you wanted. For C, this is section 3, e.g. "man 3 printf". Of particular interest is that you have to include string.h for strcpy.
If you want to specify that card is a struct, you don't need the typedef; if you do, write the name of the structure before the semicolon.

k was a number between 1 and 53. Cygwin doesn't tell you when it crashes.
The reason that assignment didn't work is that deck is allocated on main 's stack, while the string "hearts is allocated in the .text section of the executable. To reference that string could either copy it with strcpy, or, the way I did it, make suit a pointer and point to the location of hearts.

Sorry for breaking the formatting. There's a program called astyle that formats these things automatically if your IDE doesn't do it.
As far as I know, the only way to figure out that there was a crash in Cygwin is with gdb. Don't forget the -g flag.

The internet isn't helping either as I can't find any accurate information as to what the exact connections are. I'm gonna try a ghetto solution of wiring the radio's 12v ignition to the 12v permanent battery connection. Yes! The problem now is that the radio antenna isn't connected. It seems we need some kind of coaxial cable to extend the existing connection so that it can fit into a tight gap left in the unit for the radio connection.
But otherwise it's up and running. You can play your music on it and it sounds great.
