I'm tired and frustrated with work. I'm going in on day shift to train so I'm not sleeping well. The Quality engineer that's suppose to be training us isn't. He's left early every day but they keep asking us to work over to do petty thing that anyone could do. So out of 4 day of work we (36) hours. We might of got 8 hours of training and not all by him. Tomorrow is our last day of "training". We already know we'll have a two hour class (that I've already had) given by another engineer. Then 8 more hours of cleaning up before the out side audit.

No, getting a job as solely a moderator isn't very viable, (not even sure if it's possible since it's just too simple). so usually the moderators you see around different communities are employees that are tasked with moderating on the side. If they are doing it for free they are volunteers, but it's not the same because volunteers cannot be held accountable. (and oh boy, you can get yourself in a lot of shit otherwise) We had volunteers, but they didn't have any power or rights, they were members of the community that users could turn to for immediate help, or if it was something simple, because we could not be bothered with every little thing or teach people how to play the game/how to act in the community for example.
Since my job description included community management and event organization as well as basic customer support and billing department related duties, some of the stories aren't strictly moderation related. Along with maintenance, balancing, bug testing and other things that luckily did not involve interacting with people, I had full control over every aspect of let's call them "game accounts" and had to help and fix issues related to them too, plus some game, forum moderation on the side. Basically I was the guy that could give you every game on steam if he wanted, or award your steam wallet 10 000 000 000 000 bucks. Except I'm not claiming I worked for Valve.

Actually no, because every action made by you is logged and sent to HQ. Not that anyone checks those, but even then you have to log a reason for every action and if it's a ban: cite the rule violation and provide evidence. That way if, someone else has to deal with the ban appeal for a ban by you, (almost 80% of the time) they will know what is going on.
Apart from that, you just have to be a professional. You have to be a person who can easily rise above it and usually it's not hard to disregard provocation, by virtue of being in a state of power.
Still there were cases where people decided to overreact, usually leading to major shitstorms.

I did not cite the exact ban reason, you do not do that, you say: inappropriate language/offensive behavior.
I don't remember if I unbanned him, probably not, we had a zero tolerance policy. Especially for hurt fee-fees. Gotta protect the children playing our games. And that's the thing. When you log a ban reason in the admin tool you should put the category for the ban, not "Thinks rape jokes are funny", as if to hint at your own opinion that "yeah, this guy should not be unbanned", if I want to know what he exactly said, I will check the report and the logs. You could argue that it is helpful and spares time, and in some cases if there is more to it that what you would learn from the ban category fine, but it's a gray area whether it's professional to do.

No, there wasn't any decision to make really, there are rules and you follow them. The offense is in this category that has this many days for a first offense and you act accordingly. We absolutely never revoked bans, because we had a "never admit a mistake policy" and revoking a ban was "admitting a mistake" to them. Unlike 4chan, if you get a perma ban you are pretty much fucked.
Things like these weren't really things that could cost you your job. There was shit you could get into, but the power was always in your hands. Ok, another story. This one guy fucking breaks the mold one time and files a ban appeal and says something along the lines of: "I won't act dumb and beat around the bush, I know I fucked up and I am sorry, but please at least tell me the duration of my ban, It's been a week now."

Yes, you see, sometimes when the ban isn't logged correctly, the player might not receive an appropriate ban notice or see a duration, so this guy obviously was aware for the reason, and he was saying stuff like "I got overexcited, I had a lapse of judgement", but he didn't know it was perma, so he decided to wait it out and comes a week later when the ban duration should have been 3 days anyway. I mean perma for something like that? Another thing I'll make a slight interjection about. Since you can probably guess that a lot was off with that ban, it has to do with how people were more and more incompetent as went further up the hierarchy ladder. Like they didn't know jack shit about their own game or how it works. I don't mean the suits, I mean the motherfuckers who should know. Especially marketing, don't get me started on marketing and the ton of work they provided just with their incompetence. They always found ways to fuck things up and even break things in the games by requesting changes that ICBM launched glitches right into the engine. Like an inventory has a stackable item limit of 300 on slot or something and marketing are all like: yeah, deliver 600 of this item to this slot please, thx. My experience with the gaming industry is a topic for another time, I guess.

Sorry, I got distracted with other things.
Now, let's get to the fun part. (that wasn't fun). The shitstorms. The times people decided they'll take their own interpretations of the rules, or just decided, fuck it, I'm in charge.
So this guy from the foreign office makes a badly organized event that goes terribly wrong, everyone at the event is unhappy, some shit goes down, I don't know, and 50 people are perma banned at the end of it, some of the most prominent members of the community and the reason on all of them is: Insulting the GM (him).
So naturally all hell breaks loose, everyone and their whole families and their mother's cousin's mother and brother in law, plus the people that saw them on their way to the milk store that morning is filling complaints, ban appeals, accusations, claiming favoritism, character assassination and all the wild shit you can fantasize about, spamming, flooding, DDOS attacking, the works.
So what is the most professional thing to do in this situation? Especially if you are the guy who did all of this and was the only one that was there who actually knows what happened? You take a 5 day paid leave of course, and you leave all your colleagues (SS and company) to deal with it.
The best part was that if you check the logs, the worst you will see are the words: dumb and stupid as part of people's frustration with the event, and him as the organizator.
So you organize a catastrophically bad event and one or two people called you stupid? Fuck it, you are the Admin. you make the rules. Better perma ban half the people there and take a few days off so that your colleagues can deal with the fallout.
To this day I don't know what the deal was, it blew over by the time he was back, but it wasn't funny having to answer to people when you didn't know what was going on.

I use a free program called VisiPics. It scans your picture folders, looks for duplicates, groups them together and makes a list of them in the program. From there you can either move or delete the duplicates. It also allows you to view and compare them side by side, compare file size, date and resolution. It has a slider where you can select how strictly you want the program to compare pictures, whether to only look for exact copies, or to look for images that are the same but of different resolution and size.
Last time I saved pictures from here, I got around 5000, but had to delete around 1500 duplicate ones. I used to sort them by memory, but that doesn't work anymore.
