Let's talk about tripfags. Not specific tripfags, because that's what they want. Let's talk about why people use tripcodes outside of their own threads. How do their minds work? What makes one desire a name on an anonymous image board? Autism? The anger it creates? Attention? All of those?

Newfags, circle jerk, and they want friends or attention or fame. I have been tempted to use one in places where I have some internet fame, since I have a a good reputation for being considered smarter as a practical method of people to consider my views carefully. But I don't want to waste my political capital.

Some people just want to keep track of their posts.
That's how I see it.

You do not make the rules. Some boards are not strictly anonymous and so their board is not an anonymous image board. My question to you is why do you even give a shit.
Hurr durr. Why do people stay anon when the option to trip is available. Your logic

I'm not asking why. I know it's because they're attention whores.

That's why I originally started tripping, elsewhere. I had never faceposted that early on, as I saw it there was nothing connecting the trip to IRL me, other than me trying to use it to bring coherence across threads to the arguments I usually put forward, on topics that were broadly relevant and even thematic of the board.
The problem was, nobody wanted to engage the points I was making and instead focused on grilling me for using a trip - by their own hands, in doing so, pushing discussion off-topic.
So I fell into faceposting and tripfag circlejerking for a couple of months, because other trips were the only people willing to look past the trip that I had, by that point in time, unwittingly made part of my identity.
I was off my nut on meds though and when I came off those meds, I dropped the trip almost overnight.
It obviously wasn't bringing anyone over to my way of thinking.

Namefags are arguably worse than tripfags. Tripfags have a classically bad reputation and namefags bet on the idea that people will assume they're only temporary, therefore having some novelty, and then never end up going away.

I still wonder how much of the complaints that tripfriends had about being "pointlessly pelted with useless replies" would change if they never had names attached to their posts. I know that there are anons that have tripcodes but still remain anonymous in name, but even namefriends are also accused of 'triphobosexualry' despite not even using a tripcode.

Individualism. Wanting to be different and having an identity, but still remains Anonymous.
A tripcode user can't be impersonated with a ">>1568742 here, of course no I was sarcastic"
A tripcode user has to make an effort in the quality of his posts, or stop posting, lacks the point of full anonymous
The anonymity is relative, any operator, board owner or staff personnel can access your ID# or IP address. Which is why tripcodes doesn't really matter, and should be seen as a mark, like "I don't have to hide the fact it's me again" suggesting a form of trust and integrity, especially on boards with IDs visible.
And you do not want to be just a number.
Creating yourself a pseudonym is important. The heresy is to use your powerword, anywhere in the internet. Please, lie to Facebook or Twitter if you really "need" these sites. Forge your own documents, and ID cards. Even with an avatar and a pseudonym you are relatively anonymous. this is the rule #3 of the internet.

Why don't you just use user IDs? It's pretty pathetic.
