Ethan also apparently wrote Sam like some ultra praising "love letter", so it's clear MDE is central and foundational to what h3h3 ended up doing. The problem Sam has with the kid is on a few levels I'd say, I'm sure he's fine with inspiring people but he hates people who copy shit, he probably hates h3h3's shameless and brainless appeal to low level (I'd call it reddit tier, because a lot of the faggots that find that space of jokes funny have the mentality and taste of someone who likes to browse reddit) internet memetics, and probably hates that Ethan used very specific critique formats from Sam's vids (IMG 0612 most notably) and formulaically watered it down, trimmed up its hateful and critically striking vicious origins (can't be TOO mean to the piece of shit people, the public thinks that's just too far, you shouldn't ever say truly mean things! Also Ethan straight up apologized to one of the faggots on h3h3's own comment section (some kissing prank vid) saying he was cool with him because he saw the kid giving shit to homeless people (never mind the fact that this faggot was ultimately just publically exploiting them)), and hammered vids out to death, as a result rising to relative YouTube success to a degree above MDE, entirely undeserving and subservient to a pretty low common denominator.
Not trying to stir shit up but this is how I see it and I think its worth being thrown on the table - there's no reason to harass h3h3 or question them at this point; if you're not a fan just ignore them and if you are a fan you can continue to enjoy it, but also have an understanding of where there are some existing problems with how h3h3 historically and presently operates.
