i'm a cumtown listener but this was kind of pretentious and gay in that "comedian as sage" way. i like nick mullen (he's younger, 4 years younger) than me and sam. occasionally it shows but he is for sure tapped into the same childhood vein that Sam is and to me that is a big part of Nick's appeal. his appreciation and deep love of 90s pop culture is energizing and rejuvinating, in the way that only a depressed miserable hopeless faggot can be

I mean, for a major undertaking like the creation of a legitimate, professional-quality video game, you're going to need significant funds. In order to seduce investors (and even donations), you need to sell them a well-structured plan convincing enough so that people won't think their financial contributions will be squandered away. Maybe he can continue to produce videos with paypig money, but those funds can't stretch far enough to cover the costs of the video game… how much can he more can he scrape from a fanbase (either stable in size or shrinking) that already has complaints about the $5/mo.? Not much. He needs to look outside his core following for money.

He seems to have realized this on some level which is why he's seeking large loans and making Hail Mary pleas to wealthy dudes also involved in gaming who might be sympathetic to Sam's reputation as a political outcast (e.g. Notch). But the number of people in that category is extremely limited and they have a lot to lose in potentially further damaging their reputations.

And then there's the fact that Sam isn't exactly known for his follow-through with projects and deadline and no one wants to toss their money into an unpredictable, ill-defined situation. He already struggles to maintain professional relationships, which makes sense in light of recent allegations. Who wants to drop $1M on Joyride Universe just so that a few years down the line most of the developers have abandoned the project due to Sam's antics or issues with payment?

Lastly, it's no secret that Sam's been spending lavishly on cars and other major expenses. Can investors be sure their dollars are being put to good use? "Sorry, couldn't get the game done, but check out my new car."

So we will see.

My guess is that he planned to make it 3d and is now trying to find an excuse to weasel his way out of it because 3d assets are incredibly time consuming to produce without an entire art team (as opposed to 2d pixed assets which can be done by 1-3 people for a complete game, its why 2d games are really popular for game jams and such)
