I used a canteen as a spitter one dicke during infantry school when I was in the Marines. When I got back to the squad bay I filled it up with bleach and rinsed it out to try to clean it. I put it onto my pack and decided to use it as an emergency canteen that I would only use if it became absolutely necessary for me to drink some water and had no other choice. Later that week we went on a 15 or 20k hump I think it was, I had drank all the water from my camelbak and finished off all my other canteens and I was getting severely dehydrated. I grabbed the bleach canteen from the side of my pack and took a giant, dying of thirst gulp and instantly started choking and gagging and heaving. I fell out of the hump and started heaving on the side of the road we were on. The canteen still tasted like it was full of bleach. It was one of the most miserable experiences of my life, and I've had some pretty miserable experiences.
Moral of the story, don't drink bleach.
