HBS has delivered on literally every kickstarter they did, and all of there games are fantastic or so I hear

Shadowrun was okayish. Shadowrun Dragon Fall and Shadow run hong kong were great. No idea about Golem Arcana. But yes, they've proven they can deliver a finished product Unlike Mechwarrior Online

Otherwise, looking forward to it. Especially the new novel. Love Battletech's setting.

Unity is a perfectly competent game engine. Look at embed related.

>>10841

I'd rather have the MWO designs than shit taken straight out of the sourcebooks.

 No.10861

>>10852

In the hands of competent devs at least. Lot of shit made with unity. But it's a decent tool.

 No.10870

How are the mechcommander games since I have heard this game will like that?

 No.10898

>>10870

I've only played MC2 but it was one of my favorite games when i was younger. You can DL them both here but it's finicky on Win7 (Cursor is invisible ingame for me so it's nearly impossible to give commands to my Mechs)

 No.10899

>>10898

actually a quick google search taught me how to fix that; just disable "hardware mouse update" in options and you can see where you point.

game should run fine now

I just hope they put all that money towards the game, too many Kickstarter campaigns turn south because the devs end up dumping their money into random personal shit.

 No.10983

HBS has proven they can deliver via kickstarter, I'm not too worried. Plus the guy who created battletech itself is at the helm, he wouldn't dare fuck this up right?

also reminder that there was a battletech cartoon

 No.10990

>>10983

It would be one thing if this was their first kickstarter, but they've proven they aren't a scam, aren't young devs that waste the money before the game can be made, and have delivered finished games. Hell, look at the first Shadowrun. They started to run out of money, and released a lean as shit game (you couldn't save, no armor system, etc) but still released a mostly finished, working game. (And fixed 90% problems with Dragonfall).

 No.11115

So theoretically if I wanted to get into Battletech where do I start?

 No.11117

>>11115

Well, there's over 200 novels out there for you to read, many of which are available as free PDF downloads (But it's more fun to visit your local book stores). There's also the sourcebooks too, which detail the 'Mech designs themselves, as well as the rules for the game. Most hobby shops sell battletech box sets for beginners to try out as well. Plus, there's all the video games. Plenty of genres to choose, but you'll need DOSBOX for some of the older ones.

The lore stretches over so many centuries that you can really just pick any point and jump right in. Personally, I'd recommend picking up the Warrior trilogy of novels, or the seven book Twilight of the Clans series. Anything written by Micheal A. Stackpole is probably well written, but most Battletech novels are pretty quality.

 No.11118

>>11115

Oh, and just a heads up, most new Battletech novels are under the Mechwarrior brand, so if you go to shop at a store, check the M's as well as the B's

Update for anyone who's interested (Which is probably 0 of you)

If you pledge more than 25 buccs, you can add in PDFs for the tabletop game for ~10 buccs each

Honestly it's not that cool, you can probably steal the pdfs elsewhere, or after the people who buy them get theirs and inevitably upload them. Still, it's a good way to get into the series

~30k left until we hit the open ended singleplayer goal, which would be cool

I don't have much if an understanding of Battletech outside MechAssault.

What's the point of tanks in this franchise? They don't seem to mount mech weapons on them, and the look of the mech weapons look like they'd one/two shot a tank.

 No.11317

>>11315

1) Numbers. Enough tanks can swarm mechs and take them down, but it's a lot of numbers.

2) Much of the technology to make mechs have been lost, it's cheaper, and easier to make tanks.

And some tanks do have mech weapons mounted to them.

 No.11318

All vehicles have mech weapons mounted on them. Vehicles tend to be a little more fragile.

I stand corrected.

 No.11420

I backed it, but only for a cheap copy of the game. $25 seems okay.

Beta access tier was tempting, but double my money just to get to play a less complete version a little earlier, with no clear details about how much I'd get to test or when, forget it.

 No.11490

Only 400k away from pvp multiplayer. I've no doubt in my mind we'll make it. They introduced a new 85 dollar reward tier that grants access to a backer forum, and pledges bumped up quote a bit.

 No.11491

>>11490

They've got a few more days to go, usually most money from Kickstarters come on the first and last four days.

Try the board game. If you have a couple friends, some cash, and you like Dougram or VOTOMs, you'll really like it. The Board Game kicked the franchise off, and it includes units for Macross, Dougram, and Crusher Joe expies.

Well it got all funded. That's neato. I like Shadowrun Returns, the base-game was okay, but Dragonfall and Hong Kong were marked improvements over the first.

They've delivered in the past, hope they continue and with more climbs in quality.

 No.11712

Well, hopefully it's a good game because of all that funding.

the flight jacket looks great

 No.13458

Don't bet on it yet. Hare Brained schemes is one of few the Studios that /v/ can count on one hand that do crowdfunding right. They delivered everything they have in their list if it gets funded and they never extend it. Their bread and butter is actually pushing more copies after release.
