I love reading and have gathered quite a lot of books. The biggest issue I have is that I loose attention to what I'm reading and then begin reading a new book. Any advice please

 No.12715

Reading three or four books at the same time is no problem. I do that, too. I alternate between shorter and longer books, ones that I think I'll love and that I'm sure I'll hate, and so on. Don't permit yourself to have many more reads going on at the same time, though, or you'll run at risk of being overwhelmed or losing focus completely.

It's not a problem not to care about boring, unimportant books.

the real question is do you care about what you were reading?

Stop using the internet so much. Your attention span has been murdered by it.

Perhaps read one until you're bored and pick up the other until you've completed those books?

This too. There's only one book in recent memory that I had had enough of that I stopped reading it.

Some books take time on me. I loved Brave New World, but the introduction chapter and exposition had me drifting a bit, but i stuck with it. It felt a little slow at first for me, but by the end of the book it became clear how important that first chapter was. I don't believe it was too slow. It's a problem I have, or had, I go from book to book without giving myself enough time to think on it. Now after a good book I wait a week and use my free time letting it soak in or going back to reread a part to understand it better.

My best advice is to solder on and just keep reading. Maybe you're not as into the book as you thought you were. Once I get into a book it's hard for me to stop reading, so I push myself when I loose attention. That is if I find the book interesting.

My memory is pretty damn good too. More than once I'd stop mid book for 1-2 months and know right where I was last I read. I might reread the page to recap and go on: No problems.

yeah, bnw doesn't start strong…

The first chapter was the best. It was directly related to the main point, the dystopia. Only later the topic changes to specific people.

Some books just fucking suck and don't suit someone's personal taste.

Nigger, that happens every two minutes. I'm not even kidding - I'm willing to try going full House on Adderall at this point.

Your mind is wandering, that's why.

Are you getting enough sleep, and getting it regularly? I've got two friends that don't, and they're both unconcentrated as fuck despite neither being dumb nor lacking discipline. Getting into a regular schedule and eating and drinking the right things should be enough of a performance boost if you're not these things right now. If that doesn't help, then you can think about nootropics.
