Are there any good slice of life books? I usually read a lot of SF/Fantasy, and I'm in the mood for something more grounded. I'm specifically looking for a novel about someone trying to accomplish something that isn't fantastical: composing a song, writing a novel, something like that.

I'm currently writing a novel about a character trying to write a novel. I'm interested to see how other authors have written similar stories

>novel about a character trying to write a novel

Isn't that meme of what new low-effort hack writers write?

Yes. The main character is the embodiment of a meme writer. He is "writing a novel" in the sense that most "writers" mean it: which is to say that he isn't, he just tells people he is to feel good about himself, and to delude himself into thinking he could ever accomplish anything. The story's mostly about him becoming less of a faggot.

So, is the character "writing" a novel about a writer writing a novel?

so there must be plenty of these around, right?

Bean by John Christy and the Map and the Territory by Houellebecq.

Nevermind the Houellebecq one, the guy in that is a successful artist, not a meme writer.

 No.12470

Portrait of the Artist has some of it. It mainly deals with the education of the guy, though.

Epistolary novels might also contain stuff about writing.

Anything by Ernest Hemingway

A Rebourse by Huysmans, perfect slice of life for shut-in internet types, but it's from like 150 years ago

also if ur into loser writers who somehow managed to make a book that doesn't suck then huysmans is ur man, he worked as a clerk or some shit most of his life, he wrote a bunch of books but a rebourse is the only one anyone takes seriously
