I remember arguing with folks about this when I still used social media. Basically I listened to Libertarians (some of them with some level of influence at their respective organizations) endorse him by claiming the EU was a bastion of free trade and endorsing less libertarian-friendly parties that happen to want to nationalize things but also split up from the EU and have national sovereignty were in fact "more totalitarian" in their words. Said libertarians also argued that it was better to try to change the federal government instead of giving states rights since apparently smaller pools of power are worse since they "might" end up more authoritarian. I'll try to consolidate what happened at a later date since this isn't something I can properly explain from a phone on lunch.

That's retarded. Even if we take it as a given that the smaller state becomes more totalitarian that's the real existential threat, authoritarianism is merely unpleasant, its seceding would remove a large number of totalitarian people from the parent region, and cause a net increase in freedom.

I can't believe these billionaire funded organisations act in their material class interest rather than in ideals!
