It was kind of a political clusterfuck. There were people on both side opposed to it (mostly progressive groups), and people on both sides in favor of it. People were generally in support of it, until special interests did a propaganda blitz and turned the tables. It doesn't help that said propaganda blitz was founded on a mountain of half-truths and flat-out misinformation. Perhaps the worst offender was the claim that not voting "no" counted as a "yes" vote.

The only two parties that ever get a majority here are the same thing. Sounds like the US, but at least you hate each other. Our two major parties are as non-threatening as it gets. They don't bite, they barely even bark.

However, a new right-wing party, the AFD, is steadily gaining power. All the leftists are shocked and appalled because the AFD is against open borders and tends towards fiscal conservativism. I'm enjoying the butthurt, and hoping for the AFD to crack the established political system in the right ways. Don't want them to go the road of fullblown populism or some shit like that.

They are. It had some classical liberals in the beginning but they left. Now the party is mostly non-PC. That's the reason why I don't like people that brag about their political incorrectness. They're like a douche who calls you a "tit" if you don't invite him to Christmas but when you do, he brings his entire gym with him and insists on running the party.
