People don't hoard gold to sell it, they hoard gold because they believe the current fiat system will crumble and society will return to gold and other precious metals. Why? because those were actually used as money for hundreds of years. Do you actually believe that when the fiat currency will fall, people will choose something like crypto currencies, instead of gold?

You can easily do that with gold, by using goldmoney dot com or something similar. With their services, you can easily use gold to buy a cup of coffee, a new computer, or even a new house. At the end of the day, gold and other precious metals have intrinsic values, unlike cryptos. It has a few more uses, you can find them at http://geology.com/minerals/gold/uses-of-gold.shtml , but even if it were just for CPUs, it still has more uses than all the cryptos combined.

And what gives money it's value? Gold had value, through it's many uses, and the dollar had it's value, because at first it was actually backed by gold, and now it's backed by the government. The cryptos, have nothing, their are just a speculative assets and people buy them, in the hopes that they could later sell them at 10 times their initial value.

The crypto will fall so hard that they will make fiat money look good in comparison. If you look at an image of a bitcoin, you see a gold coin but with the letter "L" on it, the process on getting bitcoin is called "mining" as if you are in a mine searching for gold, when instead it's solving mathematical ecuasions, but of course mining sounds sexier than doing math. At the end of the day, bitcoin is just LARPing as gold, that is why I compared it to alchemy.
