Looks like they've been in that thread for a week now. Feels odd to be stalking them like that. I wonder if they go from thread to the next after a while. Like eventually they would get into this one and see us talking about them. Or they might just check the "regular", current threads once in a while and stumble across us wondering about them.

>>325739

Hey there hi there.

Oh you lurk them eh? Interesting.

Hmm. It could happen if there were a few anons posting in the usual threads, then a new one was set up and non-anon posters all went to bed. Then the anons could be posting in the old thread without anyone having it open and noticing the (1)s in the tab name.

Then when namefags return, they go straight into the latest thread, no one has old thread open, no one notices them.

I noticed that post. Weird though, I wasn't aware you knew coding. I thought you didn't like it. Or assumed you did. Not sure which now.

For the user input, as far as I know, we don't have to check for user input unless instructed. We just get to assume the "user" knows what to do and not break the program.

Not sure what you mean by the bit thing. It's not done though. Just trying to get things done and the way the teacher asks, but man it's hard.

Never try to code and have a friend over at the same time. You won't know what you're doing. Not that I never know.

Aww, sorry to hear that. Java was the first one I learned, and now we're on C++. I kind of want to learn those, but not too sure.

Yeah, but I'm sure later on it will be a requirement to regard user input.

Oh. Actually what he was asking, from what I can tell, is to have the function validate the payment the user puts in by seeing what the interest is for the first month. So that if it's lower than the added interest, it will tell the user to enter a higher amount. So i guess that's actually part of regarding user input.

I can repaste it, I haven't worked on it since I fell asleep though.

Probably will be, mhmm.

As I understood it, the person wants to pay an amount per month, and the the lender wishes to make a profit of some amount per year, so you divide that profit by 12 months and then check if the person is even offering to pay enough to pay the monthly interest, yeah? In any case as I said, you have that part of the code there twice. Maybe you should just call the function twice instead of copy+pasting the code.

If I understand correctly, the monPay function only computes the interest, that is, the amount that the company takes as an extra money for themselves but which does not count towards the debt/loan? Ie. not the full monthly payment. Meaning the function should just be called 'interest'?

That's…rather odd. Guess it still works with that school. Doesn't seem too helpful though.

Heh, nah. Don't read my function names, they don't make sense right now. Or at least that one. Made that name before I understood what I think he wants.

monPay only calculates the interest to see if it's less than the user inputted monthly payment.

So say I say the loan is $1000 buckarinos, 5% interest, and $4 per month. Crazy I know, but it's just an example. Because for the first month, the 5% adds $4.17 onto the loan. Yet I'm paying less than that. Because of that, I would literally never be able to pay off the loan. It cannot be any lower than $4.17. (I wrote a program to check this. You actually could pay off a loan by only paying the amount of interest that is added for the first month. But you can guess just how crazy of an idea that would be.)

That's all that function is to do. To see if the enter payment is actually "high" enough to eventually pay the loan off. Whether the amount is practical or not. If it's too low, the program is suppose to tell the user and to ask them for a higher monthly payment.

Yup! So just change the name! X3

Understood the part about comparing interest with first payment as well. I was only confused in that I thought the interest would remain constant the whole time, but it keeps getting lower as the person keeps paying off the loan.

Hmm. I am still confused about the comparison of the two loams. However, you are not comparing them so far, mhm? You should probably loop twice to compute the stats for both of the loans (ie. lines 12 through 18).

Yep. Well in reality you have to check it, or else someone is going to try inputting something funny and you'll be stuck in a loop.

If I understand correctly, you need to recompute the interest rate again every month, depending on what the person has paid off, no?

So if you have 1000 loan and 12% anual rate, that means 1% per month. So if the guy offers 100 a month, it goes like this:

1st month: interest is 1% of 1000 = 10. Guy pays 100, 10 of that is interest, 90 is taken off the amount borrowed (1000 - 90 = 910).

2nd month: interest is 1% of 910 = 9.1. Guy pays 100, 9.1 of that is interest, 90.9 is taken off the amount borrowed (910 - 9.1 = 900.9).

And so on, yeah? Meaning the amount paid remains constant until the end (except for last payment), but the interest keeps shrinking each month.

Messed up this one.

9.1 is interest, but 90.9 is taken off, so (910 - 90.9 = 819,1)

I'll allow you to blame it on your alcohol dependency this once.

>>325861

Oh yeah, for sure. Though at that point I'd probably also make a function or simple loop to prevent them from adding negative numbers or letters.

>I'm going to take out -1000 :^)

Interest is calculated a bit weird. An annual rate of 10% is divided by 100 to get the decimal. Then divided by 12 to get the rate per month. Assuming it's a monthly payment anyways. You multiply that into the loan as it's current value and you get the amount of interest to add.

So 1000 with an annual rate of 10%.

1000 * ((10/100)/12) = 8.33333 repeating. But we'll just round it to 8.33. So 8.33 is put onto the loan.

The loan is now 1008.33. Let's say the customer pays his first month, assuming no minimum, with just $10. So now the current value of the loan is 998.33 Back to calculating interest.

998.33 * ((10/100)/12) = 8.31941666 repeating. So just going to round it to 8.32. Add that amount to the loan. So now the loan is 1006.65.

So the rate stays the same, but the interest is less as you owe less. And it's why people say to always put down more money than your minimum. You pay it off faster, and end up paying less.

Well, that's one way as far as I'm aware. There's different loan terms out there, as some places do things different. I think that's the standard though. Doesn't ask me, I'm not in finance. Just try to know enough not to get screwed over.

But yes. The the interest does shrink as you pay it.

>>325864

So what are you?

No, you're right. It's the extra you have to pay each month, with out it's calculated each month. I was just showing the way that calculate it since 10% doesn't exactly seem exactly like 10%.

…don't ask me why I wrote all that. All right? ;_;

But yeah something was adding up completely right. I don't think I'm recalculating interest in that loop. So gotta fix that.
