Do me a favor, /kind/. Go on google. Or duckduckgo. Or whatever you use, it's all good!
Look up the fire department that serves your area. Notice anything? That's right. Your local fire station is most likely.. volunteer! Almost 75% of fire departments in the US are completely volunteer. And the good news? They're always searching for new members to help out, including you!
That's right, you! Volunteer fire departments are constantly searching for anyone who is willing to pitch in, no matter what!
>but I don't want to be a fireman! that's dangerous!
That's totally fine! Not every firefighter goes inside burning buildings! There's plenty of other jobs, like exterior work, traffic control, pump operator, and more! And if you don't want to ride on the fire truck at all, that's fine too! Volunteer departments can always use an extra hand in administration, fundraisers, etc!
The bottom line is, they need YOU! No matter how empty your skillset is, no matter your physical or mental strength, all help is greatly appreciated! And no matter what you do, at the end of the day you'll feel good knowing that you played such an important role in protecting your community.
You can find more about your local fire station from their website. If I didn't convince you, try contacting them and seeing when their next meeting or training is. Chances are, you'd be more than welcome to attend and see what it's like. These departments are usually made up of super /kind/ and supportive older folk who are happy to help you in any way they can.
Well, that's it for now! Remember, your local volunteer fire department is more than happy to enlist you, no matter how little you think you can do!
