>Why
STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!
The moment one attaches reason, purpose, desired result, etc. to kindness, the act and feeling (and if you believe in karma: reduces it's karmic "weight" therefore reducing its eventual effect from the cause of your kind act and/or feeling) is diminished. Kindness is best as the Chinese definition of nature: self-so or of-itself-so. Not that purposeful kindness is bad, simply less good. Let's put it in vidya terms: non-purposed kindness has the highest buff percentage or armor/weapon power or whatever. Not to say sub-epic equipment/spells/etc are to be ignored, but if you CAN wear/use/cast the epic stuff…

Seconding OP's question.
Dad told me that my mom left my old dog (she was 13 years old) alone in the middle of nowhere. It's winter in here. fuck
The world is a bad place, I'm starting to understand this now.
I thought people were kind, or at least had a bit of compassion to others. It's not uncommon for you to see people doing bad stuff to others, and they always win. If everyone were kind, no one would lose. But maybe things weren't built to work that way, the world isn't fair and will never be.
I'm starting to think that being kind doesn't pays off, maybe only for some specifics situations and groups (like this one), but not in general.
>>40457
That makes sense, but why should one be kind instead of unkind if they can choose?
I don't even know if my question makes sense, sorry.

Kindness is a gift that should be offered sparingly. Selflessness, compassion, generosity etc, practiced for too long will only serve to erode your ability to survive and thrive in this world. With those qualities worn on your sleeve, you'll simply be food for the sociopathic selfish which are in abundance.

Please don't adopt a scarcity mentality when it comes to kindness. Compassion can be likened to a candle: it can light thousands of others without its own flame being diminished. Hence, an abundance mentality is best for such!

wow. wow wow. i really hate dogs and would do anything to make my mom's and my neighbor's dogs disappear so they can't bother me anymore.
but even i wouldn't want them to fucking starve to death in the forest like that. i wouldn't want anything to be in pain even if i hate them.
your mom is exceptionally cruel and strange.

If compassion is typing kind words to anons on image boards, then sure, an abundance mentality will work.
If compassion is giving of yourself, your time, money, resources for the benefit of others, it is best to have a scarcity mentality.

I second that. Maintaining kindness between the people who value it, is much more important than spreading it to others. If we were to use candle analogy, it would be giving pieces of your own wax so other candles can stand.
I think that being kind is looked upond as being naive because oftentimes when people think of kind people, they think of martyrs and saints. And really, those often would offer to be treated upon. It makes bad image to normal people being kind.
