I like

>mariposa Spanish

>elohino Cherokee

My native tongue is English, and maybe because of that, I don't really find myself "enchanted" by any words in it. It's all too common for me.

This is my favorite word.

In Chinese it means 'Rich' and also 'Wealthy'.

But the symbolism behind this character is what I like about it.

The Top of the character represents a roof

Below that, the 'horizontal line' is the Chinese character for 'one' 一

Below that, the 'box' is the Chinese character for mouth (well really hole, but in Chinese we say mouth-hole) 口

Finally, below that is the 'box with four smaller boxes', this is the Chinese character for field 田

So overall, the character rich is "Under a roof, one mouth and one field". This is why I like this character, after all isn't that all you need to be rich, it puts things into perspective for me, every time I feel lonely or sad I remember that this one mouth of mine under this roof and all the food in my cupboard. I am rich, and what else do you need? What I really take away from it ironically, is that with so many people chasing material possessions when none of it is needed to be rich.

>any language

My native one, Polish, has two words for "fuck", "pierdolić", and "jebać", and while they are vulgar, which is an issue because I'd like to be less vulgar, I kind of admire them because of how many meanings they can take on if one changes the aspect (perfective or imperfective) or adds prefixes. Those words can mean anything from "to beat someone up", through "to task someone with additional work as a penalty", "knock something off", "steal something", "screw something up", "finish someone off", "say something embarrassing", "run very fast", to "be doing things in an insane manner", given the right prefixes and aspect.

English doesn't really have this sort of reuse with its verbs, though I do envy you guys that you can put prepositions at the end of sentences, and that your compound nouns (like "XY") mean "X of Y", rather than "a cross between X and Y" as "XoY" would in Polish.

tl;dr they're swear words, but they're versatile swear words

Nigga, it creates feelings of friendhip and happiness whenver you say it.

 No.32007

Susurrus, plural susurruses. It's an at least somewhat onomatopoetic word for "rustle or whispering sound"

 No.32011

I think my favorite word is sycophant. I also like mythological words like Stygian and leviathan.

Oh, and callipygian is a very good word too. If you don't know that one, you should really look it up. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

kindercarnavalsoptochtvoorbereidingswerkzaamheden

It is the longest word in the Dutch language, meaning "the preparations for the children's carnaval parade." Although it is not a real word, it is the product of a rule that exists in Dutch and German where you must remove all the spaces when writing multiple nouns sequentially.

Words that sound funny when pronounced wrong.

I know this is probably very specific to your accent and how you would 'otherwise' pronounce a word with each combination of letters it has, but words that look funny because of silent letters or weird combinations are fun.

Like "combinations", 'tions' is a weird suffix and always seems like "Tee-On's" like something out of golf.

And Yacht or 'yot'.

There are heaps of these, so I can't list them all, but any word with strange lettering is awesome.

I haven't found the weirdest one yet.

Aisle

Bdellium

Czar

Djinn

Euphrates

Fohn

Gnarly

Irk

Hour

Jalepeno

Knick-knack

Llama

Mnemonic

Ngomo

Ouija

Pneumonia, Pterodactyl, Psychosis

Qat

R does not have any interesting words that start with it, I don't think. If you have one, that's be swell.

Saar

Tsunami

U is also a letter that doesn't really have any neat words.

V has a bunch of words, I guess, but most of them are French. I like "Vraisemblance", but that doesn't really count.

Wren, Wrinkly, Who

Xylophone, and also a bunch of Chinese words that are fun.

Yperite

Z is another letter I can't think of one for off the top of my head.

Welkin.

Chouchoute (infml. dim. coeur, heart; sbd. dear to you).

Fernweh (wanderlust).

花火 (hanabi, Fireworks - "Flowerfire").

Toughest was German, since that is my native tongue. Not really sure about my choice there.

bashful

because it has only voiced plosives and only unvoiced fricatives, the perfect combo.

and if you dont pronounce the U like me, then the sylabic L is a nice sound to end on.

also its meaning it cute.

μῆνις, triarii, küss, 忘れる, forelook

I just like the was they sound, save μῆνις - the first word of the Iliad.

 No.35042>>35136

I always think it's very weird when people try to incorporate words of my native tongue into sentences or when they just know sloppy half true meanings of those words they supposedly use. I can only imagine what the Chinese must feel like with all those cat ladies having tatoos all over their body. On the other hand they are the jews of Asia so what do I care.

>>31241 (OP)

Komorebi is pretty nice. Gravitas is a funny word because it leads most people to false assumptions.

 No.35136

>>35042

What is your native tongue?

Also I like mångata for the same reason that I like komorebi.
