If something's going on I'll probably stay ignorant until the day the site is suddenly gone. I don't remember how I got here and don't know where I'll go but I can't keep track of whatever crap is to blame. I'll improvise, google around and lurk like a monkey. Perhaps ironically, I actually want to throw my hat into the ring for Lainchan, if it goes south here. They're total hardasses about rules and such, there's no board creation, it's pretty old-fashioned in most senses. For the most part infinichan's Free Speech brigade doesn't like it there for that reason.

I do though. It's comfy, the atmosphere is pretty low-key and respectful, and shitposting is strictly forbidden.

That's a problem I'm grappling with too, actually. On a personal level, I'm pretty sure quitting chans would be wholly positive for me, but then the question of "well, what will I do all day" comes up. Also, this is basically my only human interaction, so, there's that.

I do all of my lurking while I'm at work. Most of my "workday" revolves around waiting for other people to acknowledge my emails or rendering, so I found that *chans offer a good blend of "something to do in the meantime" while still allowing me to jump in and out as necessary.

While seeking knowledge is something I would love to do, my environment isn't terribly conducive to it.

Again, I must stress that I can only report what I see. Unsurprisingly, details are remarkably hard to come by and conflicting stories are starting to pop up by the truckload.

So, when Jim bought 8ch, he essentially became acting administrator, while still allowing hotwheels to be the site's figurehead. Jim, known to have ties to various dataminers and other for-profit outfits, pushed infinitynext through too fast, too soon, because proprietary "next-gen" software is marketable.

Next falls through, the Fred/Josh cagematch starts up. We're forced back into this old stuff. This makes Jim a sad panda. Yadda yadda, you know this.

fast forward a little ways, we're caught up to the past few weeks. Bans are being given out like candy, particularly across /b/, most for things that aren't bannable. Heil (/pol/ BO) calls Jim out on the power abuse in /operate/. Heil gets permab& by Jim, who stripped the power from other globals so he could have control over /operate/.

Jim apologizes and says he's banning IP ranges due to CP spam, but then more and more people start coming forward, many of them claiming they're getting banned for any complaint levied on the board, including requests for new transparency reports, which hotwheels always provided when this place was his.

Finally yesterday, Lowcard posts >>>/b/5741421/ , and in that thread, four vols all came forward, said "something fucky is going on here," and informed the thread they were bailing.

I still own http://8ch.pl/kind/index.html it isn't in any way "alive" but it can definitely facilitate a small community, if needed.

From what I've read on /b/, and /operate/ there really isn't anything for /kind/ to be worry about, unless you're a pedoposter, I guess.
