We haven't got a complete bottom-up model of the human brain yet, but we have shown a consistent correlation between brain structure/activity and conscious experience. Either it's the biggest fucking coincidence in the universe, or there's some kind of causal relationship. It could be an indirect causal relationship (eg. both are caused by a third thing), but there's still some link.
