If you're reading this on that site, save it, because it's gonna be gone faster than you can say "London Police here, pwetty pwease censor that American's post on your American site." *
I'm about to give you the most concentrated dose of 'wrongthink' related to this site that you've ever seen. Seriously, copy this. This is arfcom contraband.
Years ago, a servicemember posted about a bad experience with a typical black female DMV worker. A member of law enforcement - who we will refer to as 'poopypants' - took it on themselves to find that servicemember's name and report him to his command. How they got his actual name is "a mystery."
(By the way, Norcal is a child beater who would use department letterhead to get information on suspected trollposters from their ISPs. Most ISPs just cough up the info in return without even verifying. I'm not saying that Norcal provided the servicemember's information to "poopypants," but hey, remember there was no "list," just a "collection of names.")
The servicemember suffered career setbacks. The only consequences for the cop was he got a free name change and post history scrub. You know, the thing that some members have begged for - in vain - because of life circumstances, bad divorces, stalkers, etc. I think the only non cop to get one was that dusty weirdo.
How sad is that? You're basically worthless to them. And yes, I'd be careful speaking up using an account with any of your info connected to it, because arocking - doxing, is the word outside this fishbowl - has been endorsed and faciliated by staff in the past.
And I wouldn't look forward to any new features any time soon. You see, Goatboy isn't a very good software developer. In fact, if you look up even the publicly facing HTML/scripting for some of the very few 'new features,' you'll find they're just copypasted in from other sources. It's entirely probable that the only people who have done development for this site were pajeet-tier third party contractors hired to cobble together more spaghetti code on spaghetti code. Goatboy doesn't like people knowing that he never even built this forum. It's an ancient ASP script held together with baling wire and duct tape. Even the smileys that were monetized in the store were originally the free pack that came with every forum script installed in, like, 2003. Of course, the boomers here who are still using Windows XP and think that Arfcom is the site that originates the stale memes they repost think they're the "arfcom smileys," because, well, boomers were a fucking mistake.
Want proof? Go digging around in the forums at ratemybody.com- it's one of the only other sites that still "exists" that uses this script. You can even see some of the same glitches in action, for example a thread with deleted posts can end up having a 'last page' with no posts. It's so dead that you might have to use the wayback machine on their general discussion or sex and relationships forum- the site only exists to scam ad traffic at this point, and even in the past only those sections got traffic. But it's a good starting point.
@wesdesrat Don't hold your breath waiting for a chatroom. Turns out that even with an off the shelf cut-and-paste script for a chatroom, it's a little hard to integrate it the userbase of a spaghetti code active server pages script that's almost old enough to drink. The one upside of that shitshow is that Castor weirdo no longer has his tiny boomer fiefdom.
It doesn't cost as much money as you'd think to develop stuff from scratch. In fact, there are lots of competant people in your userbase who could have helped- and a lot of you are good hearted people. Goatboy could have gotten it done starvation cheap. But that would have meant letting people see under the hood. Notice how he always lets people think he "coded the boards?" It's an ego thing. Those of you in this thread offering support like @xerxes2695, you're going to notice how Juan desperately doesn't want you seeing the spaghetti code, littered with cut and paste addons.
Because he likes the stolen valor of being the 'guy who coded arfcom'. Uncle Terry would shake his head in disgust.
And besides, sinking the money into an ego-stroking custom stoneworked building and buying a bunch of Hummers - back in the 2000s while the industry advertising charges were still listed and not upgraded to "price available on request" - was more important than building something solid. Did you know about the building and the fleet of Humvees? No? Yeah, showing that stuff off might make people think "hmm, this site is already monetized to the gills just off industry partner ads, let alone my own info being sold, maybe I don't need to donate $24."
