Does anyone else feel dissatisfied with the way modern warfare is fought? Nothing is blatant; the equipment all looks the same, everything is long-range, no obvious battle-lines, fast-working WMDs to worry about, proxy-fights, dishonesty/no wars for the sake of glory, etc..

I can't be the only one who feels this way.

'modern war' diverged from the path it should have taken with the American Civil War. Up until that point it looked like manoeuvre and strategic skill/interpretation would be the deciding factor in 'modern war'. After that shitshow though we reached the point where firepower and industrial capacity determined war rather than anything respectable.
