The majority don't. Gen Z is the atheist generation. In-flight rapid unplanned disassemblies are finicky things. It's not unheard-of for the pilot to end up getting tossed out safely in the process without ejecting. But judging from the pictures of that deflated front fuselage, the cockpit looks too intact for that; he must have actually ejected, either before or after as you said.

India struck at night, and if their air strikes accomplished anything, it's not clear what.
Pakistan retaliated in daylight, and produced tangible results to no verified loss of their own. What's more, they established themselves firmly on the high ground. On the most surface level, offering the pilot back is a gesture of goodwill. Slightly more politically, it can be taken as Pakistan offering India a way to bow out of further escalation, letting them jump the narrative past retaliations for retaliations and straight to the "bringing their boy back home" phase. Either interpretation paints Pakistan in a better light than India, who are left holding the bag looking like warmongers and aggressors, despite India's explanation of anti-terrorist operations.
I'm skeptical that public opinion will shift much in Pooland though. Even if it shifts against the idea of hostilities with Pakistan for now, I suspect it'll rebound fairly quickly, and next time you'd see just as much of the celebration as we did after the strikes this time. Besides, even though what little evidence anyone has is tending more on Pakistan's side, the Indian media is what it is.
I can't speculate on how the higher-ups in India are assessing their performance; that depends on their level of arrogance. We'll see what happens when India has its elections in a couple months. If it's a success for the incumbent, he might be emboldened to have another go at it.

There's been major escalation in fighting all along the LoC tonight, by far the worst fighting of the crisis so far. Indians brought up and started using heavy artillery(155mm) and using atgms against Pak positions
Still rumor tier is Indians using MRLS and StS missiles against Pak positions, but looking increasingly likely.
Paks are replying in kind and reportedly started using snipers to target Indian officers.
Both sides are engaged in full media blackout for now, but it's also middle of the night there, may know more in the morning
