Sheriffs in a dozen Washington counties say they won’t enforce the state’s sweeping new restrictions on semi-automatic rifles until the courts decide whether they are constitutional.

A statewide initiative approved by voters in November raised the minimum age for buying semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21, required buyers to first pass a firearms safety course and added expanded background checks and gun storage requirements, among other things. It was among the most comprehensive of a string of state-level gun-control measures enacted in the U.S. after last year’s shooting at a Florida high school.

The National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation have filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging the initiative is unconstitutional. They say its purchasing requirements violate the right to bear arms and stray into the regulation of interstate commerce, which is the province of the federal government.

Sheriffs in 12 mostly rural, conservative counties — Grant, Lincoln, Okanogan, Cowlitz, Douglas, Benton, Pacific, Stevens, Yakima, Wahkiakum, Mason and Klickitat — along with the police chief of the small town of Republic, have said they will not enforce the new law until the issues are decided by the courts.

this focuses on cities, what about us rural anons? do we just sit back, eat popcorn, and watch? Most of the food is grown is sparse, easily defensible rural areas, so food wouldn't run short.

Good luck trying to flash mob out here. one house sits pretty on several acres. even if they surrounded one house, neighbors would respond and the angry mass would quickly disperse.

There are some ghettos in busier town, but they are isolated. surrounded.

You'd be surprised how easy Gerrymandering can be. All it takes, especially for smaller elections (which tend to have a much lower turn out and smaller districts). If you set up a decently accurate model of voting patterns and started looking at the numbers you'll probably find one or more constituencies where even relatively small groups combined with an effective campaign could swing the vote pretty reliably. Are US Sheriffs appointed for life or is it a fixed term thing?

Going by my Congressman's book about his Afghan experience, rural favors guerrillas even more. Paths that are isolated and especially unpaved are very easy to spam IEDs on. Worse, MRAPs aren't really suited to more hazardous terrain. This got so bad forces couldn't be deployed since no officer wanted to risk ordering an op that got men killed. Even in the most rural areas of the US, roads are likely thousands of years ahead of Afghanistan, but even with MRAPs getting hit by an IED derails a mission even if nobody is seriously injured.

Helicopters don't help government forces that much either. In Afghanistan they were never available and needed additional attack helicopters as escorts to cover landing. Since missions couldn't be conducted without medievac and medievac needed escorts that couldn't be supplied most units never left the base. For a domestic war this is worse since you need multiple helipads in the same area, and not just the ones suited for traffic monitoring or civilian medical helicopters (so you can't just commandeer a newstation/police station/hospital).

Given how much more area has to be covered in a hypothetical US occupation of rural America as opposed to Afghanistan/Iraq, the Federal forces will be much more reliant on airborne capabilities to meet logistical demands. If I were a Russian or Chinese leader with a few functioning brain-cells, I would be running thousands of MANPADS across the porous US border to cripple the Federal forces.

For that matter, what about amateur radio repeaters? Any developed urban area is going to be lousy with them.

Yeah, the FCC has the registry information, but as soon as the first HAM gets V& all that equipment's gonna get lost in boating accidents real fast. How long can you transmit from a single location before your position is triangulated? In the absence of public frequency/offset/CTCSStone? And that's assuming they don't just slap a retractable antenna on a panel van and go cruising.

They can, but that only serves to ratchet up the tension and further screw the economy. It might slow down the impromptu flashmobs, but it would cause damage of its own and just cause existing gangs among those groups to expand and take a more proactive/aggressive stance. Turning off the smartphones could actually make the situation much worse, pushing the previously impromptu and unplanned racial violence from the MUY groups he talks about into an organised warlord style set up.

In a war situation, yes. However, the pdf above describes basically an urbanite battle between middleclass and ghettos. There would be little advantage to ghetto rioters to go out 50 miles to the middle of, relative to the city, nowhere.

Even in a war, it would be hard for enemy guerrillas to attack the country side. Unless these are two opposing groups who both live in the country side, most of the rural folk would stick together. Which means they have access to their houses as bases of operations, roads, and knowledge of the land etc. Where as, for instance, a bunch of Federal Troops would find themselves in hostile territory surrounded by people who know just how to fuck them up and get back to safety like nothing had happened.

From an FCC perspective it depends on transmission characteristics, such as frequency and beamform. If you transmit NVIS or through a highly directional antenna you could transmit almost indefinitely. If you're mobile in an urban environment you might have good luck communicating through a common router using a Cantenna; you can get >1 mile from the router with good signal if you know the azimuth, and can do quite a bit more with low-profile equipment while blending in to the RF environment.

>Frogs seriously believe autoloaders load faster and better than human crewmen

Flesh and blood gets tired. That's the only reason autoloaders are a thing. Fuck your scaremongering; the question he asked was about how long it would take for his position to become coordinates on a map, at which point he would then have to worry about how quickly a crew could load a 155mm shell into a tank gun or howitzer.

To answer that question, how long would it take for those opposing you to send out three other teams to pick up your signal from three different locations and then do a little math to find the point between those other points? Cut a minute or two from that result and that's probably the amount of "safe" time you have to transmit your signal.

What do you guys know about a new law coming in July 1st? A friend told me something was coming down that would prevent 80% and stripped-lowers from changing hands under any circumstances, come July 1st.

I've looked into it, it seems (if I'm reading it right) to just be a "no 3D printed funz" law – resulting firearm has to contain metal, "enough" to set off a metal detector, and have a serial number. Also the same friend said the CLEOs said they were too backed up to finalize their backlog so the no-stripped-lowers thing was called off until next year.

Anybody else hear this? I'd been saving up to make an AK from a pre-bent blank, and of course a centimeter 1911 was after that but this may halt those developments. And I found out there exists an P320 blank – just in time for Ghost guns to be "deplatformed" by their bank (so, take postal MOs? No reply from that email).

I'm not sure that would work out. It's not a firearm as a 80% lower, and unless they carve an exception for interstate commerce it's gonna get smacked down 7-2 most likely 9th cirucit will uphold it most likely

Look for HB 1739

“Except as otherwise provided in this section, it is unlawful for any person to:

(a) Manufacture, own, buy, sell, loan, furnish, transport, or have in possession or under control, any machine gun, bump-fire stock, undetectable firearm, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle;

(b) Manufacture, own, buy, sell, loan, furnish, transport, or have in possession or under control, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively for use in a machine gun, bump-fire stock, undetectable firearm, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle, or in converting a weapon into a machine gun, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle;”

(c) Assemble or repair any machine gun, bump-fire stock, undetectable firearm, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle; or

(d) Manufacture an untraceable firearm with the intent to sell the untraceable firearm.”

Definitions:

“Undetectable firearm means any firearm that is not as detectable as 3.7 ounces of 17-4 PH stainless steel by walk-through metal detectors or magnetometers commonly used at airports or any firearm where the barrel, the slide or cylinder, or the frame or receiver of the firearm would not generate an image that accurately depicts the shape of the part when examined by the types of X-ray machines commonly used at airports.”

“Untraceable firearm means any firearm manufactured after July 1, 2019, that is not an antique firearm and that cannot be traced by law enforcement by means of a serial number affixed to the firearm by a federally licensed manufacturer or importer.”

If you're talking about the Federal H.R. 7115 , then yes. That one bans "parts-kits" of muh scary black rifles.

I think we might have a 4-3 SCOTUS ruling on this. Mainly because the government is not allowed to regulate firearms used for personal use (so no selling it) so long as it isn't NFA, isn't imported with 10 or more parts, or undetectable from a metal detector.
