Sheriffs in a dozen Washington counties say they won’t enforce the state’s sweeping new restrictions on semi-automatic rifles until the courts decide whether they are constitutional.
A statewide initiative approved by voters in November raised the minimum age for buying semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21, required buyers to first pass a firearms safety course and added expanded background checks and gun storage requirements, among other things. It was among the most comprehensive of a string of state-level gun-control measures enacted in the U.S. after last year’s shooting at a Florida high school.
The National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation have filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging the initiative is unconstitutional. They say its purchasing requirements violate the right to bear arms and stray into the regulation of interstate commerce, which is the province of the federal government.
Sheriffs in 12 mostly rural, conservative counties — Grant, Lincoln, Okanogan, Cowlitz, Douglas, Benton, Pacific, Stevens, Yakima, Wahkiakum, Mason and Klickitat — along with the police chief of the small town of Republic, have said they will not enforce the new law until the issues are decided by the courts.

You'd be surprised how easy Gerrymandering can be. All it takes, especially for smaller elections (which tend to have a much lower turn out and smaller districts). If you set up a decently accurate model of voting patterns and started looking at the numbers you'll probably find one or more constituencies where even relatively small groups combined with an effective campaign could swing the vote pretty reliably. Are US Sheriffs appointed for life or is it a fixed term thing?

Going by my Congressman's book about his Afghan experience, rural favors guerrillas even more. Paths that are isolated and especially unpaved are very easy to spam IEDs on. Worse, MRAPs aren't really suited to more hazardous terrain. This got so bad forces couldn't be deployed since no officer wanted to risk ordering an op that got men killed. Even in the most rural areas of the US, roads are likely thousands of years ahead of Afghanistan, but even with MRAPs getting hit by an IED derails a mission even if nobody is seriously injured.
Helicopters don't help government forces that much either. In Afghanistan they were never available and needed additional attack helicopters as escorts to cover landing. Since missions couldn't be conducted without medievac and medievac needed escorts that couldn't be supplied most units never left the base. For a domestic war this is worse since you need multiple helipads in the same area, and not just the ones suited for traffic monitoring or civilian medical helicopters (so you can't just commandeer a newstation/police station/hospital).

From an FCC perspective it depends on transmission characteristics, such as frequency and beamform. If you transmit NVIS or through a highly directional antenna you could transmit almost indefinitely. If you're mobile in an urban environment you might have good luck communicating through a common router using a Cantenna; you can get >1 mile from the router with good signal if you know the azimuth, and can do quite a bit more with low-profile equipment while blending in to the RF environment.

What do you guys know about a new law coming in July 1st? A friend told me something was coming down that would prevent 80% and stripped-lowers from changing hands under any circumstances, come July 1st.
I've looked into it, it seems (if I'm reading it right) to just be a "no 3D printed funz" law – resulting firearm has to contain metal, "enough" to set off a metal detector, and have a serial number. Also the same friend said the CLEOs said they were too backed up to finalize their backlog so the no-stripped-lowers thing was called off until next year.
Anybody else hear this? I'd been saving up to make an AK from a pre-bent blank, and of course a centimeter 1911 was after that but this may halt those developments. And I found out there exists an P320 blank – just in time for Ghost guns to be "deplatformed" by their bank (so, take postal MOs? No reply from that email).

I think we might have a 4-3 SCOTUS ruling on this. Mainly because the government is not allowed to regulate firearms used for personal use (so no selling it) so long as it isn't NFA, isn't imported with 10 or more parts, or undetectable from a metal detector.
