It's technically true that the supply of oil is finite, but we're not in any danger of truly running out of it. We've got vast stockpiles of known reserves, some that are completely untapped at the moment, and we're finding new oil fields all the time–sometimes in places we already know about, but a technology change makes what was once unfeasible extraction feasible, e.g. fracking. On top of that, efficiency is continually increasing across the board–whether it's in the extraction process, the refinement process, the burning process, or even the transportation process. As such, even when not accounting for the new deposits being found, a static supply of oil is getting "bigger" over time as well, because we can now do more with less. Let me be clear, however: oil will be replaced, just not because we're about to run out of it. Instead it will be because something objectively better comes along, regardless of the current supply, such as nuclear power. Incidentally, I'm glad you mentioned fission/fusion, which are actually viable replacements, and not some retarded meme technology like windmills. When this happens, oil will almost certainly still be available in large amounts, and may still be used for certain niche applications. It would just be more expensive/less efficient/otherwise worse than its replacement.

You are correct that oil has lots of uses besides burning it for energy; polymers is the big one that comes to mind, and with the way materials science is exploding right now it's only going to get bigger. However, economically speaking it's not accurate to say that oil is being "wasted" because it's not being used for these things. It's all supply and demand, plus opportunity cost: most oil is being used for fuel instead of other uses because consumers are demanding energy a lot more than they are polymers, and at the moment, for a variety of reasons, oil is the best way to meet that demand in energy. When the demand for polymers becomes greater than the demand for energy, and/or one of oil's competitors becomes viable enough to replace it, the market will shift to using less oil for energy all on its own. Now, there is one big caveat I need to add to this: due to government meddling, even though something might be a viable replacement in theory–the technology is reliable, investors are confident enough in it to put money towards it, etc–it isn't viable in practice, because market interference is standing in its way. Nuclear again is the prime example of this; in a free market fission reactors won't generate all the energy, because coal and other things are just so damn cheap in certain localities (ie Appalachia), but you can sure as hell bet that they would take up a lot more of the market share than they do now.
