There's no discharge in the war!

So I recently got my first gun, and I had a few questions related to it:

1. Are there any recommended things and/or ways for cleaning / lubricating a handgun?

2. What kind of ammo should I be looking at for use in a 9mm?

3. Any tips for keeping a gun hidden from the rest of my family? At least for the time being.

What'd you get, OP?

Taurus G2c

Neat!

I have a CZ75, all I usually do to maintain it is strip, wipe down, oil with Hoppes No. 9, run a brush of Hoppes down the barrel, reassemble, check function. That's a mostly polymor gun? Lubricate the rail contacts on the slide after every range trip, or don't, I have autism. As for ammunition there's hundreds of nice 9x19 self defense loads, for range shit I normally use 115gr or 124gr, whatever mommy buys me with my allowance money. Don't fucking use FMJ for self defense. Keep the gun under your pillow or your mattress or something.

>That's a mostly polymer gun?

The slide's metal but the rest of it is polymer (even the guide rod, unfortunately).

>As for ammunition there's hundreds of nice 9x19 self defense loads, >for range shit I normally use 115gr or 124gr

I was thinking about using Federal 124gr for the range.

> Don't fucking use FMJ for self defense

No I know that, I was thinking about going with Hornady Critical Defense.

>Keep the gun under your pillow or your mattress or something

That's what I've been doing so far. I'm just asking because the other people in my family think that guns are the work of the devil or some shit.

For practice ammo use sgammo.com and get yourself a case of ammo. You can use steel cased ammo practice and will run you cheaper unlike brass ammo. (You can use the spare cash to purchase magazines/a CC holster or both).

Really, you shouldn't bother with Crit Defense, Gold Dot, or any other real expensive defense ammo. Entry-level defense projectiles have 95% of their performance, for more than half the cost. Just in this video, you see that the baseline Remington ammo is almost indistinguishable from the premium Hornady and Federal selection.

I'll look into that then, thanks.

I didn't know that there was a video like this. Thanks

>bought a taurus

You fucked up. Taurus has a reputation for exploding.

>what kind of ammo should I be looking at for use in a 9mm

Low powered stuff to minimize explosion chance.

>Hidden

You bought a subcompact. If for some retarded reason you couldn't carry it 24/7 on your body like it's meant to be you'd probably get away with a pistol safe somewhere private, also bolted down so your family can't have a tism fit.

>Kind of ammo

Deepest penetration with largest expansion that you can shoot accurately from your gun. Learn to reload for cheaper practice ammo, massad ayoob has sat in cases where reloads have fucked people over because shooting handloads counts as destructive testing.

Tarus has been getting better but the internals can be rough. You should look it over and if it's rough take it to a gunsmith. Cost a few hundred to get the interior refinished but it'll be worth it.

And Harrell should know about it, he whacked someone in self defense.

He shot a drunk guy through a windshield.
