Why didn't Sabot and Flechettes catch on , they seem far superior to standard ammunition when looking at accuracy, penetration and distance. What went wrong?

Also how well did flechette bombs preform in ww1 cant find much on them

They're very light, meaning their path can deviate wildly when encountering foliage. Just putting a plastic shield would serve to stop them, cause them to turn almost sideways on exiting it and not penetrate any armor.

This may sound stupid but wouldnt stabalizing wings on the front of the round fix the foliage and wind issues and since flechettes are so flat shooting couldnt sights on the rifle be more focused to wind adjustments than distance like a reverse ak sight?

They bounced around like crazy indoors making it much more likely for you to shoot yourself in close quarters. They also had very poor terminal ballistics if I remember correctly. Of course these are just small arms issues. Flechettes are widely used in the artillery, tank gun, auto cannon and airborne rocket pod roles.
