I guess I'm not the only one here with pair of glasses (myopia).
I wanted to know how it's done in the military. Do you need "fighting" glasses adapted to you eyes? Arer you basic glasses enough?
I'm really concerned with my glasse. The problem in a SHTF scenario, is that they're fucking vital. Without them, you're blind to the end. In the military, you need glasses that don't move, and some replacement in case you break them.
Do you have any plan regarding this? I don't know, some brand that make very tough pair glasses? I'm ready to put money on the table. In the past, you had a tube in which you had like 5 glasses, and if anything broke on your pair, you can easely replace it with one of them. Now, it's pretty all in one, pretty hard to put your glasses in the pair.
Thanks.

A lot of people are talking about Laziks, but I'm seriously in doubt. The operation have failed on a lot of people. They get a 10/10, but since the operation was badly done, they have luminous halos, veils or more rarely the image double/triple.

Interesting trivia I got from small talk with some optometrists, people with astigmatism who grew up on fucking video games before they had their glasses blew people who didn't play video games with the same severity out of the water for vision tests. Does anyone have experience with NODs and glasses. I'm curious as to the compatibility of the two and what needs to be considered (i.e. monocular vs. binocular, ordinary frames vs. specialty Rx goggles, etc.) I'm also somewhat aware that the spill-over of light from the NODs against the users face can be a concern for being spotted - I imagine adding glasses into the equation would complicate things further.
Also, any tips for fitting over-the-ear hearing protection and glasses to be more comfortable together? I typically stick to ear plugs because of my glasses, but I would like to get into active hearing protection or some way to integrate comms equipment.

You can wear your private ones, but when you join they check your eyes and give you a prescription for a pair of glasses, with that prescription you can get to any of the opticians here in Germany and they make you a pair of glasses with your exact needed Dioptre and you can choose from some of their basic spectacle frames. I'll at some point have the money to do the surgery. But I'm too afraid of the consequences. I use contacts also, but you can get eye infections from wearing them in the field due to how dirty you get (the Army doctor might not allow you to wear contact lenses for this reason.) Trick is to wear monthly contacts and not take them out for the duration of the field exercise. Be mindful to not touch or rub your eyes.
If you need to replace your lenses, be sure to have water and baby wipes / sanitary wipes, cleaning solution, and a compact mirror in your kit.
Keep two pairs of prescription glasses on hand in case you need to discontinue use.
If you get an infection, Chlorsig Eye drops will normally clear it up. If you can avoid eye infections, contacts are far superior in the rain for using rifle scopes, etc.

BW gives you combat goggles with inserts. They are called ReVesion IIRC, and they are quite good.
They also pay part of the price of a normal pair of glasses. If those get broken while on duty you can get a replacement and they will pay again, and again and again…
Honestly, I have never had problems with normal glasses. They even give you inserts for your NBC mask, which is quite neat, so whenever you need to put on your mask quickly you can just throw your normal glasses on the ground and put on your NBC mask. If your glasses get broken in the process that doesn't matter, because you can A: get replacements for cheap, and B: still have your combat goggles, which can resist a shotgun blast.
The thing about Fallis getting the best gear isn't wrong, but it isn't right either. Its just that they take best care of their shit, while in other units something might break and the one who broke it will attempt to hide it as best as they can to not have to pay up, with Fallis they will immediately report and fix it. I believe this may be partly because they all know that their life depends on their equipment, because, you know, they jump out of fucking planes and only land at a velocity smaller than terminal if their gear properly works.

Have you ever tried to shoot left handed? You only have use your left hand for rifles, not for handguns (You just have to turn you head a little bite more on the right to aim with your left eye). It's seriously easy to aim using your left hand. GIve it a try. If the handle is ambidextrous, you still can use the weapon with your left shoulder, it's just that it's gonna be a little pain to access the bolt action/safety etc… Reloading the mags is easier with your right hand though.
You need to be able to shoot with both your hand/eyes anyway. You never know in what situation you'll be when you'll actually need your weapon and shoot. You could have your right arm broken. You could have taken a hit on your right eye forcing you to close it.

From my experience if you are legit in field and dirty environments I would suggest glasses. I have had contacts tear in my eye and get stuck in there, which is painful and prevents you from seeing obviously. Also have had eye irritation from contact containers not being perfectly sterile and it can persist for months even if you sterilize the container once you realize the problem.

I had similar concerns. Formerly nearsighted computercuck with bad astigmatism. Had PRK a few months ago specifically because I was useless without my glasses and I didn't want to depend on combat goggles and I wanted to be able to see during combat sports. The left eye is now perfect. The right eye is much better, but not perfect, and I may have it redone (it's free). Also the right eye has a dry/tender spot on it that bothers me sometimes. Eyes are still sensitive to light, and they get dry sometimes, but now I can engage in combat sports and shooting much more effectively.
I would do it again. But there are downsides, so be aware of what you are getting into.
