USA need someplace to launch drones from to hit targets in ME and Africa now with Boko Haram.

http://www.businessinsider.com/us-military-building-a-100-million-drone-base-in-niger-2016-9

Three special forces there got ambushed and ganked on the way to the base.

USA has thousands of special forces and contractors in Africa, conducting on average 100 missions any given hour around the clock. This is a massive shadow war which no one talks about, sadly there's no Soldier of Fortune magazine to mention it now.

Hardly a shadow war when AFRICOM is public knowledge and US involvement in Libya is well known.

easier to run them ALL over when you can do it from the air.

Not a single media source has ran a cycle story on it since inception.

why nigeria? if they want to fly to middle east and central africa wouldnt it make sense to make base somewhere on the other coast, in a country that isnt landlocked for ease of transport?

at this point they could just as well fly from italy

for what purpose? Is this the virgin threat to the Chad republic?

>Boko Haram

I'm pretty sick of our haram kikes as well, tbqh

That's completely false considering you can look at the citation page of AFRICOM and see all the news articles about it.

We fly everything in with c-17s anyways, no need to use our massive naval capacity…especially considering our DD, CA's attraction to cargo ships.

still, if it is supposed to also host drones operating in midlle east distance from base to target is far too far, especially from current and potential conflict zones like syria or iran, not even mentioning afghanistan. and its not like there is some usefull infrastructure in niger, transporting suplies and materials will be nightmare, not even mentioning need of shipping advanced spare parts from the other side of the world. they could as well build it in some ethiopia or arabian desert, its not like there isnt enough space and government is just as corrupt

This. It makes no sense for anything else than Boku no Haram which we all know is rather kosher.

USN is rapidly becoming useless for future conflicts, both insurgencies and the massive state threats (PRC/RF). The carrier fleet, cruisers and destroyers should all be cut. Reduce it to a fleet of subs, policing frigates/corvettes, and a large merchant marine. Everything except MBT can be transported by air. America has allied airbases two countries away from every country in the world. Combat aircraft can fly from these, which is actually cheaper than chugging along on a carrier for weeks.

Three possibilities:

1. They aren't launching from there, that's where the trucks and trailers with the remote control guys are, reducing lag in half (from 1.7s to 0.95s).

2. Niger gave them a really really good deal.

3. This is a local base for drone observation not attack, and what I wrote in the original post was BS (most likely ;_;)
