in particular I remember my favorite part of the book. and by favorite I mean saddest, most depressing, douche chilling part of the book.
our two main characters sneak into LA and hop on a rickety old bus (the price of gas is something like $800 a gallon so public transportation is the only way anyone can get further than 5 miles besides walking, and of course most people don't even have the luxury of getting to ride a bus). the air conditioner hasn't worked in years and some old guy in front of our heroes is sweating like crazy when he finally just loses it and starts talking about how "things used to work in this country, we didn't have to worry about this kind of stuff things actually worked." some woman who would have been doubtlessly fat except that califalia is now a famine state screams "RACIST" at him to shut him up. after the bus breaks down a few minutes later, she calls the politce on him (the prisons were emptied of real criminals, who then became the new police force while the legit police all fled to "the flyover states") so they beat the shit out of him.
she does get a really nice comeuppance tho.
I also like the part where the main characters are in an actual restaurant that has real food and doesn't require a ration card in the nice part of town. one of the waitstaff gets screamed at by some tumblrhair female, and the guy just snaps and stabs the shit out of her with a fork, inciting all the other employees to fucking wreck all the stuck up liberals in the joint. of course, the police are called in to subdue the incident with fully automatic weapons and a licence to kill, because anyone causing trouble in the people's republic must clearly be a racist sexist instigator and disruptor of the civil order.
author has a really nice resume, too.

"Tales of a New America" by Gunther Roosevelt ain't too bad. (Wild Cat Oil Driller forms private high tech army to conquer the US, starting in the Pacific NW) It's one of the few books that does address two major problems that would arise in such a scenario. 1. How to counter US nuclear threat (Answer: Sleeper agents with dirty bombs in major cities) 2. What to do with liberals flooding into your stable middle class society (Answer: Re-education camps and stripping them of their children and rights.)
I wish I could remember that name of the author that wrote a novel (in the form of letters being written by a citizen of a new Communist State to a family member living elsewhere) that described a modern far left nightmare (Ie Mao's China or Pol Pot's Year Zero) to a tee. Thing is, he wrote it in the mid/late 1800s and the book was dismissed as "too unbelievable" Shame, its a damn fine read.

It is pretty sad, Warren Ellis did a great run on Punisher Max, but as always it still has a big share of "muslim dindus were innocent all along" shit.
In a way I can't blame him, because that narrative was inescapable, as soon as the second tower collapsed people were blaming America for having "brought this on themselves" because of muh crusades or muh imperialism or the Barbary War (which the muslims instigated as usual). They'll never admit that western imperialism did nothing but improve the lives of those it supposedly "ruled."
The narrative of "America world bully getting comeuppance" was the only one allowable by the entertainment community, so writing a story that said anything different is as good as blacklisting yourself. Not that it means a lot of artists had to censor themselves, I suspect the majority of them are inherently left leaning, something to do with being an artist means you become inherently leftish. George Zimmerman's brother once said that an entertainer's career is based entirely on emotions, evoking and manipulating people's emotions, and therefore they tend to think and reason with their emotions as well, which means they're not evoking facts in their understanding of real life events. Therefore, to be an entertainer usually means having an inherent "pro-emotional thinking" bias, which seems to lend itself to becoming a leftist, because the left side is all about how an event makes you FEEL rather than its real world applications or effects. You FEEL that guns cause violence because they make loud sounds and fire bullets that can be used to kill people, so artists are almost always anti gun because violence bad (just like I learned in hideo kojima games).
A non-leftist who is a creator is rare, they're usually pretty mediocre and demand they shove in their own gay politics as well, so the good guys are always these faggy christians being oppressed, as if the right wanted to own victimhood instead, lest they reveal the gayness of the whole "turn the other cheek" shit, because when it comes to the emotions of the left and the right, they're both very fruity and effeminate. Rarely do you get a John Milius who absolutely knew what he was doing, didn't feel the need to have the good heroes kneel (like fags) to pray to god before blowing away the bad guys with a .44. He understood the emotional aspect of art as well, but his greatest dream was to fly through the air and drop fire on children. We need more of that, less of everything else. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I just have the first issue, and although I hate the wierd liberal pandering it does actually have a few non-shit narrative elements that could sway me into buying a second issue. Maybe.
The characters are mostly one dimensional and certain aspects of it lack internal consistency (when california seceded they just sort of pretended all the laws in cali stopped existing, so adoptions of immigrants made by californians aren't valid, and the fed is going around trying to fucking off all these people who are actually legally US citizens just becase) but there is an interesting tone of semi-/k/ommando liberal types, which is a semi-refreshing change from seeing crazy stereotypes of /pol/ being the only people willing to pick up a gun and shoot tyrants in the face when shit needs to get done.
Also has some wierd sci-fi elements, but it is taking place nearly 6 years in the future from now at least.
I'm not super impressed so far, but at $3 an issue I can waste a little bit more money on it because it is kind of borderline for me, at least. I'm hoping the writers have some levels of self awareness and the first issue's problems were mainly because they had to condense six years of history and 2-3 character intros into a fairly small space

It's really not logical at this point entirely, but I think the legal logic they're using is that it's essentially an occuppied enemy country. They respect some laws but not like 99% of them.

As for sci-fi elements, one of the first characters you're introduced to has a robotic bird/pocket AI that's voice activated and basically a flying wikipedia copy. I'm actually sort of interested in that character, as he seems to be the classic "true neutral" type. the first scene is him trying to pass some anti-depressants to a national guard guy who's standing watch (it's poorly done because the NG guy has a gestapo visor and is standing in a REALLY bad spot) then him taking his boots and shoving all the pills in his mouth after a sniper shoots him. It's fucking wierd.
I get the feeling sci-fi elements and such will progress the story or be a major plot point later on.
