In much better tones, try to avoid buying food at supermarkets if you want to sample genuine things, try to see if you find small shops that sell classic italian foods, like schiacciata, arancini, pizza and the like.
If I were you I'd research the region I am going to, this way you'll know the local specialties and will be able to enjoy the culinary wonders of Italy because let's be honest, nobody can eat as good as us.
Oh and gyipsies may try to buy a ticket for you at automated ticket machines as a "favor", just tell them to fuck off to begin with, they will try to steal your change.

All these are true, also NEVER:

>speak proper burger talk but try your best to CONVEY what you want to tell the locals, most people, including the youngsters who claim to speak English fluently, can't even recognize an American accent from a British one, your best bet is to either go full WopJitsu, draw or physically hint at the object or concept you're trying to spell or speak in broken Italian as much as you can. If you know Spanish it also kinda sorta works
Also make sure to visit local Panetterie (a Baker's that doesn't sell the terrible shit you could buy in underdeveloped countries like France) and make sure to befriend some locals as well to have some sort of base of operation to get back to if you're in trouble. Also, at least down South, there'll be plenty of people who'll try to park your vehicle for you, just give them an Euro once you come back from whatever you're trying to do, trust me, it's for your own good. Unless they're niggers, in that case you can just ignore them.

A word of advice, then. If you visit around Florence, or in Tuscany and Umbria in general, the "normal" bread you'll buy in bakeries will be saltless. All of the salt we had went into cold cuts, like prosciutto and capocollo.
