Salaam,

How do you guys feel about sheikhs like Yasir Qadhi who speak of jinn posession/sihr/ayne? A lot of scholars perpetuate knowledge in regards to these things that seem to just be the pesonal experiences of ruqyih, and it's bordering on dajjal-like false prophecy from my perspective. Unless knowledge of the unseen is from the Quran or sunnah it's great misguidance and false prophecy according to this;

Further I wanted to share a fitnah happening with a brother of mine. He had brain surgery a while ago and he's literally just an innocent kid who's been misled it seems.

He diagnosed his mom with jinn possession because of these sheikhs and now, because all the information he got from them and the theme it presented, he-

1. Refuses to eat

1.1 When he does eat he recites ruqyah over the food for dozens of minutes

2. Refuses to sleep

3. Listens to ruqya all day long

4. Collects information to prove the possession

5. Constantly talks about it literally constantly

6. Thinks a jinn mafia is after him

7. Thinks his mom is possessed by an ifreet and literally curses her to her face

8. Thinks he can communicate directly with Allah with an eye twitch

Wallahi the situation is terrible and gets worse by the week and he repeatedly quotes yasir qadhi and islamqa etc. The theme of using your own intellect and personal experience in regards to the unseen has literally ruined his life and is causing great stress for the family. Further he prays istikhara for this as well, and again it only increases him in his flight for guidance because of how the dua is framed in the west as infallible.

Perhaps it's anecdotal I just wanted to share what happened to someone who followed those who flap their lips, and I'm nearly enranged at the thought of some of these mostly western sheikhs now.

That kind of possession tends to fall into the purview of Christianity. Yes, there is vast acceptance of possession, but it's not something we tend to think about in those terms. After all, jinn aren't necessarily evil. Like men, they CAN be, but it isn't automatically assumed to be so. Actual demons, however, are incredibly easy to get rid of.

It sounds to me like the brother you speak of needs help from a mental health care professional. Encourage him to see a psychiatrist.

This. Most people who perform ruqya service for people, even in third world countries understand that theres a difference between being possessed and being mentally ill, and that they can't help with the latter. Take him to see a local imam if you can, who'll probably convey to him that he's off his rocker.

Again, this. This sounds like textbook schizophrenia. I had a schizophreniac episode a few years ago. I got diagnosed with schizophreniaform disorder, which basically means I had really extreme symptoms of schizophrenia for about 7 weeks but then I came out of it Alhamdulillah. I thought I was being attacked by jinn and that they were everywhere controlling people. I thought if I moved things around in my house I could affect the outside world and all other kinds of crazy things. I could look at anything and see a threatening horrible message in it sent to me by the jinn, thinking it was planned hundreds of years in advance by them. Not even the sticker on a milk carton, can of soda, or wrapper of any kind. When it got at its worst I couldn't even look at numbers without articulating some kind of threatening message in my mind. Long story short I got arrested and ended up having my mind return to normal on its own while I was in solitary confinement. They people at the jail wouldn't give me any medication, but I got on medication when I went to a mental health center for diagnosis.

Thanks for the responses ikhwan.

I suggested to the family a baker act and to take him to a medical professional, but because of things sheikhs have said about the nonsense he firmly places it in reality and refuses to accept he may be wrong or mental.

I too was schizophrenic at one point and could easily say he has a similar mental disorder but again he's extremely set in his ways while building a fortress in his mind of quotes from videos and notes he's taking of generally negative things he attributes to jinn like hair loss.

I sat down with him for probably over 24 hours over course of the last month or so and learned a lot about what these people say about jinni and sihr etc and none of it is islamic. None of it is based in the Quran or Sunnah. It's all just bidah with a islamic word pinned on it wallahi and it's ruined my brothers life completely because he's, like these sheikhs, trying to derive the unseen by using logic and personal experience when knowledge of the unseen comes only by revelation.

I've been possessed myself. I'm still remain in control of my body, but the jinn is influencing my behavior. Like, i can't control my anger, always feel the need to eat until i vomit, having wet dream. The most obvious sign is, when i prepare to do salah, i suddenly cry for no reason. There's some kind of tingling sensation in my head. I realized that i may have been possessed by jinn. I performed ruqyih with honey mixture as medium, and my body react immediately. The moment i drank the mixture (recited with surah), my throat started to feel burn. Then, i began to throw up and gargled so much even though i haven't eat anything (it's still fajr).

I personally don't believe those kind of mystical things, and i'm not a really devout person. But this proves that jinns are real (to me), and they can harm you in many ways possible.

He didn't claim to know the unseen.

He just said that his ruqyah and idhkar worked and that's it.

The thing is even saying his athkar works is claiming to know the unseen. Did he see the jinn in the unseen running away or did an angel whisper the truth to him or something?
