If I understand those ayats above correctly, someone who kills himself will go to jahannam but also those ayats below say Allah forgives anything but shirk for whom He wills.

https://quran.com/4/48

https://quran.com/4/116

Is suicide a type of shirk or can Allah forgive someone and send him to jahannam at the same time? Can Allah forgive someone who committed suicide because of his feelings that cause him to not to be able to think reasonably? I am not assuming anything about Allah, I'm just asking. Astaghfirullah.

I've been tired of life for a long time and don't want to live honestly. I'm not afraid of death nor I'm sad to a great extent about people I will leave behind. Alhamdulillah my parents can take care of themselves and I have no spouse, child or younger sibling. Needless to say I'm not justifying it, astaghfirullah. I'm only afraid of jahannam. I feel so much confusion and weakness.

And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason [6:151]

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: “O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.’ ”

Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 70 Hadith 575

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, will be in the (Hell) Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever; and whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever; and whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, will be carrying that weapon in his hand and stabbing his abdomen with it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever.”

Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 71 Hadith 670

The understanding of the vast majority of Muslims is that even someone who commits suicide is not beyond the mercy and forgiveness of Allah, and that's the understanding I find more support for in the Quran.

But don't see this as a justification. At the end of the day suicide is still a severe sin and it's Allah that will judge you and He knows your situation better than yourself. So perhaps someone feel like they're justified to commit suicide, when they're in-fact not. So go seek help for your suicidal thoughts and don't think that Allah will not help you in this world.

I was thinking of suicide every now and then because how idiotic people can be and how insufferable the society is in general but I am reminded of this hadith https://sunnah.com/nasai/21/3

>"None of you should wish for death because of some harm that befalls him, rather he should say: 'Allahumma ahini ma kanatil-hayatu khairanli wa tawaffani idha kanatil-wafatu khairanli (O Allah, keep me alive so alive so long as life is good for me, and cause me to die when death is good for me.)"'

>O Allah, keep me alive so alive so long as life is good for me, and cause me to die when death is good for me

I loved it. It feels great. To me, it implies that you still have a purpose in this world. Your duty as a servant is still not done yet. There are good to be done. There might be people that would be extremely sad or hurt when you're gone.

Remember, Allah can easily replace you any time with someone else in His plans but you're still here, still alive.d Allah has something good for you and all we can do is strive, dua and tawakkal.

I can relate akh. While I frequently feel a yearning for death I nonetheless accept that Allah has ordained suffering for me, and it is his wish that I proceed onwards through treachery.

Your death will happen soon enough, there is no need to hasten it, just be patient and do what you can to be favoured by Allah while you wait.

It is only 1 soul, and death will reach you, so give it cheaply for the sake of Allah instead of wasting it. So either you live doing the minimal deeds like every muslim or you surpass that and give your soul to Allah. A soul which you don't own in the first place, that's how merciful Allah is, allows his slaves to trade dunya for akhira.

Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah , so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah ? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment. 9:111

61:4 Verily, God loves [only] those who fight in His cause in [solid] ranks, as though they were a building firm and compact.

61:10 O YOU who have attained to faith! Shall I point out to you a bargain that will save you from grievous suffering [in this world and in the life to come]?

61:11 You are to believe in God and His Apostle, and to strive hard in God's cause with your possessions and your lives: this is for your own good - if you but knew it! -

61:12 If you do so, He will forgive you your sins, and [in the life to come] will admit you into gardens through which running waters flow, and into goodly mansions in [those] gardens of perpetual bliss: that [will be] the triumph supreme! -

61:13 And [withal, He will grant you] yet another thing that you dearly love: succour from God [in this world], and a victory soon to come: and [thereof, O Prophet,] give thou a glad tiding to all who believe.

Don't assume things. I do what I can and I have been blessed, people look up to me, I have a nice job etc. Nonetheless my body and consequently mind are ruined. Inshallah things will improve when I get the chance to have surgery and inshallah the effects of chronic pollution are at least not entirely permanent and my body will be better when I have the money to move to the countryside or things change.

Depression is a medical condition. Nobody here is a doctor. Hell, I'm a lawyer. If you don't want people to assume things, don't bring your medical conditions up in a room full of non-doctors.

What about intoxicated people? I've wondered if the same punishment for suicide, or other sins applies if they're intoxicated when they commit them or if it's already covered by the punishment for being intoxicated.

Unknown, however if you know that being intoxicated will cause you to sin and you get intoxicated anyway, then you are probably held responsible for what you do while intoxicated.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

The one who studies the sources of sharee‘ah will realise that the Lawgiver disregarded words that were not meant as said by the one who uttered them; rather he uttered them unintentionally, as in the case of one who is sleeping, or forgot, or was intoxicated, or was ignorant, or was compelled, or made a mistake as a result of extreme joy or anger or sickness, and the like.

End quote from I‘laam al-Muwaqqi‘een, 3/78

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

Words spoken by one who was intoxicated do not count at all, whether they concerning himself or anyone else, and his actions are like the actions of one who made a mistake; he is to be taken to task for actions for which one who made a mistake is to be taken to task, so long as we do not know that he intended to do this haraam action by consuming the intoxicant. In that case we regard his actions as being like the actions of one who is sober and he is to be taken to task for them.

End quote from ash-Sharh al-Mumti‘, 14/444

The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه وسلم) said: “The Pen is lifted from three (i.e., their deeds are not recorded):

a child until he reaches puberty;

an insane man until he comes to his senses;

one who is asleep until he wakes up.”

[Recorded in Abu Dawud #4403, and Ibn Majah #2041]

Intoxication is not in one of these cases so it really depends on the intention of the drinker beforehand.
