I was reading into my countries history (mainly the Meiji restoration) and found out that Japan nearly became Islamic.
Basically to combat the west pro Japan nationalists and muslims forged a close alliance and in 1906 the emperor was going to convert to islam.
I can't find anything on why it was abruptly stopped however, there's a few theories but there's little evidence to support them.
Theory one is that the British threatened that they would declare war on Japan if they did, I find this unlikely but Britain have had a bad history with us so it wouldn't surprise me.
Second theory is that the Rothschilds threatened to kill Japan economically if we did, which is more likely but I don't think they would've threatened and I don't think it'd stop the country from becoming islamic.
What would an islamic Japan even be like?

Shūmei Ōkawa, by far the highest-placed and most prominent figure in both Japanese government and academia in the matter of Japanese-Islamic exchange and studies, managed to complete his translation of the Qur'an in prison, while being prosecuted as an alleged class-A war criminal by the victorious Allied forces for being an 'organ of propaganda'. What you are engaging on is called "Asabiyyah" (tribalism), and whomever dies for it does not die a Müslim.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “He is not one of us who calls to tribalism. He is not one of us who fights for the sake of tribalism. He is not one of us who dies following the way of tribalism.”
