I used to find myself to be at the very least a decent Muslim. I would pray 5 times a day, read the Qur'an every night in both Arabic and English, go to Friday prayers, attend Islamic youth studies, avoid major sins like Zina, eating Haram/non-zabiha meat, etc. The only major sins I knowingly committed were my addiction to masturbation and pornography, which I used as an excuse to contain myself from fornication.
I always prayed to Allah swt that I wanted to become a better Muslim and strengthen my imam, and I've taken steps into taking that path, especially recently. But I feel like my connection is getting weaker, and I'm scared because I don't wish to displease Allah swt. My passion in Islam has massively deteriorated in the past week and I've been suffering quite badly with a lot of inner turmoil, confusion and doubt.
I recently given up masturbation and pornography, something I wanted to do but subconsciously wanted to hold onto. It was my vice so getting off of them was hard and I'm not sure how I long I can maintain. I've only been at it for a week (I did nofap during one Ramadan for 11 days, but I felt that it actually pushed me to borderline commit zina). That has led me to extreme boredom and even mild depression.
What truly made matters worse was my discovery that drawing, something that I very much enjoy and am passionate about, is not only haram but a grave major sin. Listening to music, another thing I enjoy (although I prefer video game OSTs over mainstream music) is also Haram. At first, I thought these were just opinions from those super orthodx Muslim imams, but my own extensive research made me come to the conclusion that they're indeed right. I very much wanted to believe my own whims, but I was just denying the truth. I know Allah swt will always forgive me, but it absolutely destroyed my heart how many of the things that I love that I wasn't even aware were bad things are big sins.
I've been really depressed recently. I can't go back to those things anymore. I can't find a qt 3.14 wife who's pious but has a sexual appetite to fully satisfy my needs. I wanted to get closer to Allah swt, but I feel like it had the opposite effect.
I need help.

Reading the Hadith, listening to several different imams/muftis, asking others online, etc. I couldn't find much results that supported my whims.
I don't wish to question the wisdom of Rasulullah pbuh or Allah swt, but I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that being a picture maker is seen as something among the worst sins. I can see if you did it for idoltary reasons or if you have a good-sized over it, but when I drew living things, I never thought to myself that I was competing with Allah swt or that I was creating life.

This topic is not as clear cut as most people claim. Check out Mufti Abu Layth al Maliki. If you search his name on youtube along with music or drawing you'll find his discussions on it.

Just relax. Music and frivolously drawing living images is disliked and seen as haram by many scholars. But there have always been different interpretations. These are tangential issues but the safest bet is to avoid them entirely but your intention is a factor as well. One way to boost your iman is to giveup something Allah dislikes eventhough you like it. It’s possible you like something that is bad for you and dislike something that is better.
Right off the bat many scholars say that without the face there is no life so you can draw faceless things. Others are even more lenient. And music? The pro-music faction are dominant in muslim countries right now as music is inescapable. That doesn’t make it right but just don’t have a spiritual crisis because you can’t do something you like (if your research leads to that conclusion.
I used to LOVE scotch whiskey. Would you take me seriously if I said im having a crisis because I “very much enjoy and am passionate about” scotch whiskey? Maybe you are born muslim and this is your chance to experience what it is like for reverts (including the sahaba) to give up things they used to do fisabilillah.

Whenever you give something up for the sake of Allah, he gives you something better. That said, try not to rush yourself into quitting everything you like at once. The trick to making good habits stick is to make them into habits.
If you actively listen to music, try listening to Quranic recitations or nasheeds. If you just want something in the background, try http://rainymood.com/
As for drawing, there are differences on opinion on it. Some people allow them for instructional or educational purposes. Some allow for pictures without living things, so nature drawings should be fine. You could also get into calligraphy, or those geometric patterns that come up often in Islamic art. You don't have to rule out drawing entirely.

I didn't settle on one person's word, I scattered around looking for as many scholarly opinions that would support my whims. When I saw ones that did, they were usually countered with several passages from the Hadith. I'm in a state of great confusion. Yesterday, may Allah forgive me, I entertained the idea of soft apostasy to Christianity or some kind of corruption of Islam. My parents told me that I'm now taking religion too seriously, but that's probably because they too don't want to live in a world where they have to give up worldly pleasures like music.
I don't wish to anger Allah swt, even if it means I have to repress myself. It's still greatly upsetting to me and sometimes I wished I still lived in blissful ignorance.

It's stated multiple times in the Hadith.
Rasulullah saw said, "The worst punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be for those who imitate the creation of Allah (by making pictures);" and "A tongue-like fire will come out of Hell (on the Day of Resurrection) and say: I am the punishment for whoever worshipped other than Allah, and a stubborn tyrant, and the picture makers."
To go against the Hadith is going against the Prophet saw, which is forbidden.

I am a weak person, I don't deny this. I ask for forgiveness at least five times a day, although generally probably 20. I don't want to be a transgressor who asks for forgiveness and then goes back to sinning nonchalantly. I don't wish to abuse Allah swt's forgiveness.
Sometimes, I wish I was simply born in a Muslim dominated country in the old days before the age of colonialism and Internet. At least that way, all the temptations of sinning would be a lot easier to avoid built on a hardened Muslim society where the only thing fun to do was read the Qur'an or socialize at the mosque. I thank Allah swt for all the fortunes he has given me, however. But we live in an age where there's too many distractions, where sex, music and picture making, the latter two which are also present in Muslim countries. I'm too weak and easily fall prey to them.

What you added in the parenthesis, which really is the most important part here, are not even part of the hadith. But either way, reconciling that hadith with the Quran(eg Solomon(as) having made statues for him) and other hadiths on the same topic(eg Aisha(ra) owning figurines of animate beings) one can conclude that the "picture makers" here are makers of idols.

Yeah. And even back then there were munafiqeen and open haters of Islam - eventhough they met the Prophet! People that struggle with submitting today should be terrified of having been born back then. Imagine if you sat with the Prophet and then still ended up being insolent towards an Nabi pbuh.
>Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and he was sharing out some wealth, Dhu’l-Khuwaysirah, a man from Banu Tameem, came and said: O Messenger of Allah, be fair! The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Woe to you! Who will be fair if I am not fair? You will be doomed and lost if I am not fair.” ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, give me permission to strike his neck. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Let him be, for he has companions, in comparison to whose prayer one of you would regard his prayer as insignificant, and he would regard his fasting as insignificant in comparison to their fasting. They recite the Qur’aan but it does not go any further than their collarbones. They will pass out of Islam as an arrow passes out of the prey.

So, what is the policy of a Muslim who does his prayers, fasts, gives zakat (although much limited due to advice from elders), reads his Qur'an, etc. but does major sins like pornography and masturbation, drawing and listening to music? I understand that Allah SWT forgives all sins (except shirk) and will repeatedly forgive you for committing those sins repeatedly if you're sincere. I just don't want to be among those who do major sins and ask for tawba and immediately go back to sinning, at least not with true sincerity. Is there even a place in jannah for those types? What if it's an addiction?
Pornography is such an evil with an allure that is very powerful. I don't want to go back to masturbation and pornography, but I fear that a relapse is very high possibility. Hearing stories about how some people mananged to go more than a year and then relapse is scary. Obviously, I will use masturbation as a way to protect myself from zina, but I hate this oversexualized world we live in. Why can't we be in a 1950s-like society where family was seen as a wonderful thing, where women were more pious and all the people who did decadent and degenerate things were cast out of society? This is why I hate Marxists and liberals so much for enabling these things like free love or the sexual revolution.
Please mention me in your duas, brothers. All I want is to be deserving of Allah SWT's love and mercy and to make Him proud.

To add, I hate when I'm told to just go get married.
Obviously, I do want to get married, but the elders who suggest it like it's an easy thing to do are oblivious to how things are today. Women are so picky.
I'm entirely afraid of marriage. I'm glad that women can get divorces from abusive and poisonous marriages, but it seems as though women have too much liberation in it. Divorces are way too common and some people throw divorce parties and even brag about it. I don't want to be stuck paying alimony while only seeing my children on the weekends while an ex-wife takes my home, car and life. It's no wonder why people of my age are so hesitant to get married, because marriage in this modern world has been ruined.
I'm told just to get an arranged marriage, but I don't want to end up with some illerate and uncultured farm girl who doesn't even connect with me. I do want a pious, virtuous woman who values her purity but at the same time I don't want to end up with some prude who only has sex for reproducing only.

Omigosh, stop overthinking things. Couples have a right and obligation to keep eachother satisfied, it nips sin in the bud. And that problem is very very rare anyway. And if that is a severe problem - ie a frigid wife - then she should encourage you to take a second wife or you can terminate the marriage.

anyone with a brain knows movies, tv shows and video games have soundtracks, even the news has background music. Anyone who watches these things will be exposed to music. Pretending that you didn't "seek" them out only works on your first or second exposure, after a while its not an excuse.

If your niyyah is to seek out a news show to listen to the music it would fall into the category of seeking the show to touch yourself while looking at the female newsreader. You are actively seeking out something that is at the very least frivolous and makruh.
However if your intention is to ascertain the news or learn the language the news is being broadcast in or some other noble goal then the benefit outweighs the harm.

Quitting masturbation can be difficult if you are used to doing it on a regular basis. Start by completely quitting porn. When I first tried “no fap” I only made it about a week or so before giving in. I felt bad about it and tried again, this time making it about a month before giving in. I felt bad again, and it seemed that during the first week or 2 weeks the desire was more intense, then died down. I tried again, and this time I made it a couple of months. After that time I haven’t done it in about 2 years. I stopped keeping track. Once you make it for so long, it gets easier. After so long I started having wet dreams which I hadn’t really experienced before. I see them as more of an annoyance than a kind of relief. I am planning on getting married, but there are is an immigration problem for the moment. I got introduced to a practicing sister from a friend of mine.

Hello, brothers.
I'm happy to report that I have gotten over my grief and despair. I tried to burden myself so hard by trying to become as good of a Muslim as possible. I always acknowledged Allah swt's forgiveness and mercy, but there was ignorance in it. I was misguided into believing that true repentance was only for those who swore to abstain from major sins and never return to it.
I'm a sinner and I'm not proud of it and it hurts knowing this, but Allah's infinite love, forgiveness and mercy will always be there for me. What a truly beautiful deen and God we have!

Then there is also Islamic music which I hear coming out from Nissans as they drive by. I don't think art is a sin in your religion. It's just degenerate western jewish art. Like ☻s or taylor swift singing about sex and drugs. Or the ☻ty modern art you see today with vagina sculptures or piss in a bottle. I mean i'm not even a muslim but I would see why such art is a sin. It brainwashes the mind in nihlisitc pursuits that lead to decadence in societies. Pic sorta related

If by art you mean meme paintings that everyone pretends to like such as the Mona Lisa then sure. Is that what you think art is? The leading western ‘artist’ today is a fraud who dunks sharks in formaldehyde and calls it art… color me impressed.

The Arab world is known for its art, as are the Turkic states and Iran

Funny how I posted this 1 day before I saw this thread:
"I can't believe that, although I'm weak in faith when it comes to prayer, I have let go of everything I previously used to do. Like drawing Animate beings, listening to music, and Disobeying my parents and the such. Heck, I am thinking about letting go of my future career job such as being a video game developer to just being a Code programmer. I'll be honest that the Shaytaan still sometimes gets the hold of me, and my family, aside from my mother, is extremely weak in faith. The more I learn about this religion, the more attached I become to it.
Ever-since last week or two, I never touched my beard. Nore have I ever stood for the pledge of allegiance to any Nation. While I'm still taking piano classes, hopefully this time it'll be my last. Also, while I am forced to work in a business in which alcoholic beverages are sold, Bacon and Haram foods is sold and smoke cigars are bought and Lottery tickets are the top priority, Insha'allah, All of these will be gone. My Niyyah (intention) was to dispose of all of this for the benefit of society.
The more I learn about U.S or global history, the more I incline towards Islam, knowing how Islam could've solved all of their problems. Idk, just thought I needed to express this out there."
Brotherhood truly does exist within our Ummah :}

>the grapes are sour! yuck!
thankfully the mona lisa is not the only piece of art
>The leading western ‘artist’ today is a fraud who dunks sharks in formaldehyde and calls it art… color me impressed.
yes modern art is ☻ because its so abstract, pointless, unskillful and unaesthetic, the opposite of ancient and medieval art.

In accordance with the quotes you shouldn't be playing games etc. or propagating likenesses of people at all. Why is this board full of non-photographic depictions of people then? Or photos for that matter, the distinction is built on wishful thinking. I understand the phrase was "making" not specifically "painting" or "crafting manually", correct? Its not like photos aren't manipulated with editing tools either. Shouldn't they all be deleted/replaced/hidden on sight by the moderation? How was this not addressed?

Honestly? Because it's an image board. I could make the board text only, but sometimes a good image can communicate way better than words.
I also believe that the image prohibition as this board is concerned extends to the following:
1] Prophets. No images of the prophets.
2] Pornography. No porn or lewd of any kind is allowed. Not even if it's a spoilered image.
3] Immodesty. No images of 3D men or women dressed immodestly.
Otherwise, I figure it's all up for debate.

At some point one has to draw a line in the sand and say "thats far enough, this prohibition is sufficiently grounded in scholarly consensus, common practice and my own conscience. There is no reason to tolerate the harmful behavior esp. when deleting pictures silences no one's opinions." You ran off with the stick and are currently somewhere in Taklamakan.
Don't delete photos/require them to be posted hidden, fine, but drawings/cgi? This is clearly wrong, you most likely judge it wrong with very little/no doubt, run this board and make the rules. What should inform those rules given your creed and the character of the board? Think on that.

>that drawing, something that I very much enjoy and am passionate about, is not only haram but a grave major sin.
become an environnemental artist. You're going to get faster recognition anyway. It's rarer. You can use that "burden" to develop your own meta-style: No conscious emotion expression, to express an emotion to the consumer.

I went through and deleted all locked threads. There were 35 of them going back years. Shows how slow this board can be sometimes. I tend to keep locked threads around for a while so I have something to point to when someone makes a thread we've already discussed and complains when I delete it.
