Yes, this is a Muslim safe space.
If you cannot handle that, leave.

How does salvation work in Islam? Is it fundamentally uncertain?

>Islam teaches that no one can gain salvation simply by virtue of their belief or deeds, instead it is the Mercy of God, which merits them salvation.

198639 No.17447

And those who believe and do good deeds, they are dwellers of Paradise, they dwell therein forever. - Qur'an 2:82

3dbea2 No.17448

I think you might be confusing Islam with Calvinism.

but every believer does good and bad deeds, it's all a mixture, no one does only good all the time. So how can they tell if they are going to be damned or not?

>>17448

not sure what you mean

8e9fc1 No.17451

>>17450

>how can they tell if they are going to be damned or not?

… did you read the Qur'an passage? You're overthinking it. Believe in Allah and the Last Day and do good deeds. Allah knows best.

It's not a competition and there's no score card. Study Qur'an before you try to get philosophical.

0bf2a9 No.17452

>It's not a competition and there's no score card.

what does that mean? Your good and bad deeds don't get measured?

8e9fc1 No.17453

>>17452

Not really, no. There are good deeds and there are bad deeds. Some good is more good and some bad is more bad. Obviously murder is worse than eating bacon, for example; but we really have no way of knowing anything about it. We are called upon to believe and to do good and to avoid evil. That's it.

We believe and we do good things and we pray that we are worthy of Paradise; but we don't know if we're worthy of it or not.

0bf2a9 No.17454

So my original post is correct?

You guys don't know if Islam will save you.

198639 No.17455

>>17454

Except we do know that through our belief and deeds, we will dwell in Paradise. Qur'an tells us this. But just because we can doesn't mean we will.

0bf2a9 No.17456

>>17455

ya, I get that. But that makes salvation into a lottery, the more good deeds you do the more chances you have of winning the competition.

But no matter how much good you do, you won't know if it outweighs the evil you did, or if its actually "good" in God's eyes, since your actions could be hiding selfishness within them.

8e9fc1 No.17457

>>17456

In a way, you're right. But not in the sense of "it doesn't matter what I do" predestination. What you do matters.

ce910e No.17458

>>17456

if you have an atom of 'iman' you will go to heaven but what we don't know is how much will you have to stay in hell first to pay for your bad deeds

133040 No.17459

>>17458

> is how much will you have to stay in hell first to pay for your bad deeds

really? does everyone go through that process? sounds like purgatory.

Look up al-Barzakh

>In Sufism, the Barzakh or Alam-e-Araf, is not only where the human soul resides after death but it is also a place that the soul can visit during sleep and meditation. Major Scholar, Ibn 'Arabi, defines Barzakh as the intermediate realm or "isthmus"

> It is between the World of Corporeal Bodies and the World of Spirits, and is a means of contact between the two worlds. Without it, there would be no contact between the two and both would cease to exist.

interesting. Is this based on hadiths or just speculation?

198639 No.17462

>>17461

A little bit of both; but as always, it's important to thoroughly study Qur'an and al-Sunnah before delving into esoteric philosophy. Otherwise, you begin confusing Islam with Buddhism.
