Most of the gun control crowd seems to be some shade of ignorant or outright retarded.
A representative of Colorado thought that her magazine ban would work because she thought that the magazines were consumed upon firing and not reusable, they were just a part of the bullets. So if she banned "high capacity" magazines in her state, shooters would "use them up" and not be able to acquire more ever again.

Maybe that does work. Though have a friend in New York who had to go through some weird bullshit to get a handgun, included sending paperwork to a judge, where I can walk into a sports store with guns and buy one right there after signing some things. Which I have done before.

I really don't know the laws on such sells, but it'd be hard to enforce unless trackers were put on the guns themselves.I guess they could punish the person who's name is on the ID. I don't subscribe to the idea that people commit shootings spur of the moment, spontaneously. If only because every single case thus far (even if it's only discovered to be so after the fact) has presented a rather dedicated person behind the incident, one that planned or was predisposed to their own violence for quite a while, and determined to carry it out by various means.
I've yet to really hear any story about a person that just rolled out of bed one day and went through with a shooting spree on a whim.

I don't think restrictions will stop all shootings but things like criminal background and mental background checks can help.
There will be people who always manage to get guns but not everyone will be able to get around the restrictions.
Of course guns aren't the only factor the US has a lot of problems and even if you magically removed all guns there'd still be issues.
