Techniques and tricks are part of the package, but most of it is you, and a lot of it, probably most of the rest of it, is the hypnotist. A good hypnotist will know and use good techniques, and they will know an audience and how to manipulate that audience, but it almost doesn't matter what they do. It's about who they are and what they do in their whole life. The technique is just a tiny part of their life. Getting you to focus on the technique is actually part of the hypnosis. The more you think it's the technique, the better it works, and the better it works, the more you focus on the technique. When that loop gets tight and fast without getting disrupted, you enter a meditation type mental state where you are focused on something meaningless, and your mental defenses go down. That's when the magic happens, and by magic I mean fantasy. You believe things that aren't true.
Effective hypnotists tend to be heavily committed to a fantasty about their whole life. A classic example is trans persons. They are heavily committed to a fantasy about their whole identity, and they get really obsessed with developing and preserving that fantasy in their own heads. They also get really obsessed with getting other people to have the same fantasy. Hence the constant pushing of sissy hypno, and the fact that a lot of the more effective stuff is sissy stuff. Another big one is hypnotists who are into the occult. Fantasy development is a big part of occult practice.
On the subject side, movies, video games, and porn all develop your fantasy muscles. If you want to trip harder, add meditation and occult practices. Tell more lies. Learn to draw. Do theater. Whatever.
The big one, on both sides: the fantasy that you are important and special and that someone is paying special attention to you. Someone might be, but it sure ain't the hypnotist, or the subject. They are just jerking themselves off. Probably literally. That's all they know, and that's all they want to know.
