He also proceeded to fuck up his marriage by sleeping with his wife's best friend and be diagnosed with depression among other things a lot of which he attributed to his parents' bad relationship influencing his childhood.
Just because the guy is broken it doesn't have to mean that his book is completely useless, but if you're gonna read it better take it with heaps of salt.

"The Game" is pretty much a Hollywood screenplay, where the Normal guy enters a strange world, encounters mentors and villains, and then dusts himself off and goes back to Normal life.
