I think the most important thing is immersion.
You have to make the player feel immersed in the universe of the game. If you only make sex renders, no matter how good the content is, you probably will not stand out.
The most obvious way to create immersion is to allow the player to navigate the scenery and interact with the objects and people present in it. You don't have to make a 3D game for this, several games in Renpy work this way. Try to avoid the classic Visual Novels style unless you have an excellent artist.
Sex scenes can't be free. The player needs to feel that he has worked hard to win a girl.
Giving real options to the player is a good thing. If he has any control over what is happening, he will feel that he is influencing the story and this is important.
