I didn't attempt it in many of FFs but in 5 grinding is avoidable and the game can actually reward you for not doing it. I had a successful playthrough using all my knowledge of the game that allowed me to complete it without any grinding (I'm not counting the random battles that happened during traveling). It helped that FF5 introduces new things at precisely the timing for such a run. For example there is an early boss that has a nice attack for your Blue Mage but it only hits party members with level equivalent to 5 or it's multiple so if you just let one person stay on approporiate level you can learn it and get access to a limited target attack with very potent effect, no grinding needed.

I don't currently donate to any of these Patreons, but I HAVE donated to a few of them in the past.

I donated to Library Story since it seemed to be essentially another Akabur game. But the Russian Jew running it, Xalijo ended up being too much like Akabur when there was only one update in the entirety of 2017 and it was a pretty threadbare one. I dropped my donation to voice my displeasure, but his overall donations have gone up since then.

Then with Summertime Saga, I donated there for awhile too. In the beginning Dark Cookie was pretty quick with updates and it actually seemed like he was trying to make the game instead of stringing people along. Once the updates got to be multiple months between releases, I dropped my donation. His overall donations have gone up since then.

I did donate to Something Unlimited, but once he dropped updates to every other month and kept spamming new character after new character with no content making damn sure we all knew that no real h-content was ever going to be forthcoming, I dropped my donation. His overall donations have gone up since then.

I've been thinking about donating to Witch Hunter Trainer, another Akabur-esque Russian with similar animation. Since it got started September of last year there's been two updates with a third planned this month. That's one every other month. Honestly though, being burned on every other game I've donated to makes me leery. You donate so they keep making the game and doing a good job, and all it does is incentivize them to fuck you over. But if you don't donate, these games sink into obscurity and never get more than half-started.

I just wish there was a developer out there consistently putting out a quality product with regular updates. Something to restore my faith in these faggot developers.

So far I'm impressed with that Fall:Out game, they've missed a couple of their deadlines but one was just after Christmas and New Year and someone was apparently sick so the current update is delayed.

However, they released a pretty solid 0.1 with like 2 hours of content and then the second update had a whole new area and a fair bit of stuff, mostly finishing off the core mechanics of the game such as the combat and map system.

Hence why I donate to it currently.

They also keep in touch on their Patreon and post maybe once a week, they don't just disappear for like 3 months and leave you thinking the project is dead.

Not perfect but it's the one project I have faith in at the moment.

In a perfect world, this game would consist of the Glamour Slam (because you have to make money) and the cells. Once you put a heroine in a cell, you can activate "mindless mode" at any time and fuck them as you wish, just like what happens in the Bordello (except it's Lex instead of watching someone through a camera). Commenting on the general state of weg rather than SU, and am not giving a take on the creation of art assets other than using applicable CC licensed pieces to cut down time, but have you even used ren'py? Because it is incredibly straightforward to the point where even a monkey could use it, especially considering that you don't really need other shit such as particle dynamics and physics (unless you want to be really fancy).

If the barrier of entry and workflow *isn't* as low as you believe it to be, then we wouldn't be flooded with so many low quality projects that update maybe once or twice a year. Hell, I've seen a few of projects that don't even bother to change the default font, let alone edit the GUI.

Two and a half months from the last update, I decide to give the new "fixed" update a try. Going down the content list:

Artemis's Glamour Slam shit works fine, but literally who cares? The Private Room is bugged and leaves me at a perpetual black screen. Figures.

Moving on to Blackfire who apparently has a cell strip scene? Black screen again. Fuck it, whatever.

Skipping Killer Frost since it's literally nothing besides her intro and move straight to Miss Martian. I decide to try her cell scene before downgrading her device and sending her to the brothel and again black screen.

I'm guessing this means "start the whole game over and spend a couple of hours working back to this point for the almost nonexistent content of this update because our save files are incompatible"

I'm impressed with the sudden realization… what is there worthwhile about this game? The starting appeal of the game was good and like we learned from other games that all people need to pledge their money forever even if the updates turn to shit.

Can only report some bugs later in the game. Had some problems with UI elements disappearing at points and having to Alt+F4 out when playing around with the “Go Back” menus and I couldn’t see my Threat Level for a while anymore for some reason (it was transparent), but it started showing again at some point.

Also Mercy’s “Naked” costume doesn’t seem to be properly unlocking/pickable (seems to be connected with not unlocking the business suit lingerie before, since it works after). There were also some problems with the dialogues in prison with Lex saying he’ll get out in a day 3-4 days before the actual event and some dialogues/content repeating (had the “guard stripping scene” in Ivy’s room twice) and Artemis “Sex” scene in the Private room doesn’t show any graphics. Also Status doesn’t display for any of the new villains and Terra seems to be able to get stuck (can’t choose her symbol anymore in either Strip Joint or Bordello).

Game would also be MUCH improved by fixing up the UI a bit and making it more usable, button to make the text-box disappear is missing and a lot of Menus require too much interaction and clicking (for instance the Upgrade Device -> Hero -> Upgrade -> Dialogue -> Upgrade -> Dialogue -> Go Back -> Upgrade Device loop), especially with the “Go Back” stuff getting annoying after a while (like Costume -> Go Back -> Confirm/Go Back (why do you need to confirm exiting a menu?) and Resetting/setting up heroines in the Strip club which would be much improved if you could just replace them by simple Drag & Drop.
