Can anyone tell me what kernel or type of kernel Bloomberg Terminal is actually using? Bloomberg L.P. seem to keep everything under such lock and key that I can't figure it out even with the Googles. This is a photo of what one looks like.. for those who don't know you pay $22,000 per year to rent one.. they provide the hardware you see along with the data and whatever the hell software it's actually running, as far as what it's named anyway.. curious about the architecture of their platform.

I guess it's literally a "terminal", or end-point.. and it's Windows-based leading me to believe the data servers or whatever you'd call the center part of a terminal (a 'cloud' I hope not..) are NT based or just running Windows Server 08 or 2012... in fact I port scanned using the typical -A -Pn common ports no ping method, a CIDR of NYSE data IP's and most of them came back as Windows Server 2008 R2 "Beta", why that'd be I don't know..

It's actually a Windows program, not an actual OS/kernel. At least nowadays it is. All information goes through their servers. Same with Eikon. When you're done with it, you just close the program.

I'd like to add, they send you a keyboard which Bloomberg uses to authenticate you (hardware authentication). You still need a login, though.

Probably because those are separate windows open.
